Hello!
I don't normally hang around this part of the forum but that might all be changing soon.
I'm looking to get into a Cayman in the near future. After driving the 2.7 vs the 3.4 S I feel it's going to be the S for me. However obviously the bore score debate is there in the back of my head and I don't want to drive it like I'm scared the whole time and that extra power might be wasted because I would push the 2.7 a bit harder...anyway...
I've seen an S that I like and was just wondering if anyone here knows anything about her. Reg is MV56FHU.
Thanks in advance.

I can't help with details about the specific car, but I recently did the same as you - test drove the 2.7 (base) and 3.4 (S). I drove the 2.7 first and thought wow, the noise this makes is great, but the acceleration didn't really blow me away (coming from an Audi TT 2.0 TFSI). I then jumped in the 3.4 and decision was made.
You are definitely making the right decision going with the S, don't worry about the power. It'll only go as fast as you make it go! Would you rather have £100K sat in the bank and never use it? I would (Really bad analogy, I know!!
)
Got luck in finding your perfect 987 Cayman S.
Totally contradicting what I said above, BUT, if you find a 987 Cayman S and you could get a 981 Cayman Base for the same money - my money would go on the 981 base.

If the car has a full Porsche service history then ask where it has been serviced and check it out the OPC. They should be able to give you the history. Take the VIN number just in case the number plate has been changed from the original. If the seller is genuine he should have no problem with this request and probably will have invoices receipts etc. If it does not have a full service history then I personally would not touch it. I would also be doing the usual visual check on things like tyres (N rated? if not then why), brake disks, signs of oil leaks, paint work, ensure it is started from cold, look at the exhaust on start up and listen to the engine for unusual noises. Check the clutch feel, internal condition of seats etc making sure everything tends to suggest the milage is true. Don't forget the HPI check. Make sure you get to drive it. Follow your gut feel but take along someone with you who may be more objective / less emotive about the purchase and who has experience of the brand. If you are an expert that is a different matter. I consider myself a knowledgeable amateur but I would always take someone with me. The cars are normally reliable but can be very expensive to repair if you get a duff one. I recently went with a friend who bought a 56 plate Cayman with 54K miles. He has been delighted with it and has owned it for 8 months now without any issues so don't let the age put you off. If it has been genuinely looked after the owner will be delighted to talk about it. Best of luckI don't normally hang around this part of the forum but that might all be changing soon.
