My Daytona great RS4 avant has been deeply keyed on the rear door.

Also be lightly keyed on the opposite rear door.

Aside from paying through the nose for it to be repainted professionally (which I wouldn't bother doing during the winter) are there any other solutions.

Are Audi touch up pens any good?

Do those scratch eraser pens actually do anything?

Thanks

Very difficult to get a good fill on any length of scratch with a touch up - for short scratches and isolated chips you can get a reasonable result but a scratch through the colour coat is difficult.

Wet sanding and polishing you could give the appearance that the scratch is a lot shallower and less severe than it currently is.

Depending on the location of the scratch you may be able to up to a swage line and lose it with a localised repair. If it's on a larger area a 'smart repair' will certainly improve the appearance and cover the scratch but you'd be able to see the repaired area.

Sorry to hear you're car was targeted; jealous tossers frown

Thanks for the info Dr G.
My local paintshop (who do good work) have quoted £520 for the lighter of the two and haven't seen the newest one. It's white whole way, means it's taken the paint out all the way along the length of the door. So visible!

Jealous people in this world. Extraordinary isn't it. My near immaculate car save for two "envy stripes".

Devastated.

Am thinking of trying 'chips away' - heard of them? Are they any good?

Good franchise but dependant on the skill on the painter.

Have you tried a coloured wax? It's pretty good at hiding blemishes and non-permanent so you could hide the worst of the damage till the better weather.

You don't mention the age of the car, but if you ever need to make use of Audi's corrosion warranty they won't pay out if a none-approved body shop was used.

It's a B7 on a 56 plate. (reason it's so immaculate is it's only 38k miles!)

Am I out of warranty?

No - it's 12 years - see https://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/audi-insurance-...

I had the roof gutters on my 2005 S4 repaired recently under warranty. Before approving the work they went round and measured the paint depth all over the car. If the paint was thicker than expected (i.e. it had been repainted), they wouldn't honour the repair.

Wow. That is fairly detailed. I will make sure I go to Audi approved in that case.

My neighbour's 18 year old daughter's boyfriend hit my car a couple of weeks back. His parents are footing the bill for a bumper re-spray but even that might be worth going Audi approved.

That's an awful thing to happen, mindless t*ats. Sadly I think your only option is a respray where they've gone through to the metal, but you might get away with a machine polish on the other door, worth a chat with a good detailer or bodyshop.

The best solution if somebody keys your car is to jump up and down on their face.
