Le Manoir or Luton Hoo
Discussion
We're going up North (Peak District) tomorrow for a wedding and thinking of a night somewhere nice on the way home.
I've just checked and both Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons and Luton Hoo have availability for Sunday night.
Luton Hoo will work out at roughly half the price but I've always wanted to go to Le Manoir, please tell me how to convince my Wife that it's the right thing to do.

Excellent food and fantastic all round experience at Le Manoir - not stuffy at all, really friendly and helpful.
The second time we visited we stayed the night and the room was lovely with a great breakfast etc, but was expensive.
Personally, I'd consider finding cheaper accommodation nearby and having the top tasting menu, rather than trying to minimise the cost of the food to offset the cost of the room (if that's a compromise you might have to make).
If the money isn't a massive issue, then staying on site adds to the special atmosphere.

We haven't had a break for 8 months so on the way back from the wedding the plan was to have a treat and stay at Le Manoir on Sunday night and do the tasting menu but we've now decided to save that for a special occasion next year.
We are just about to book Sunday night at Luton Hoo with the tasting menu in the Wehrner Restaurant which looks pretty good, then on Monday my wife can have a much deserved Spa day while I get in a much needed round of golf.
