Refurbished Throttle Bodies
Discussion
Hi,
Just sent my throttle bodies off to Andy Hoile, who advertises on PH. Very happy with the results should you be thinking about doing the same. Andy has also modified the entry point to the throttle bodies, to cater better for the silicon hoses that are on Brendan's Airbox, which I have also purchased. Jules and Matt Smith have also been helpful in advising on the modifications, which will allow the air to flow more freely from the hoses into the throttle bodies. So once back on the engine and with the new airbox, over to Jules for a remap. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Oh very interesting. How much more space do the "large" throttle bodies take over the originals. Have the bodies been somehow stretched at the mouth
does this affect the tps position being "larger".
Simply the silicon hoses fit on the outside of the throttle bodies...meaning there is a lip around the inside which I believe the standard airbox fitted on to. So Andy has bevelled the edge to ensure the lip is minimised improving the air flow for the silicon hoses, that's all mate. A worthwhile mod and should work well

Oh cool. So they're not "larger".
Now the body mouth lip is knife edged why not create a step in the hose so there is no transition. Can't see why that's not a possible change in the tooling as the hose is held with a clip. And obviously as the raw silicon is wound I'm guessing any shape and internal diameter is possible. Is Brendan supplying this.

My point about large throttle bodies was a joke following on from yours Now the body mouth lip is knife edged why not create a step in the hose so there is no transition. Happy with it as it is mate. I can't see the point in over engineering this further with a step in a hose which surely makes the hose narrower as a result. It's just a subtle modification that does the job simply for marginal gains

Interesting. What was the marginal gain. Did you dyno the car before and after.
If I had an endless pot of cash then I would dyno before and after (who does that?) but I'm a mere mortal so no lol. It makes sense there will be some benefit, it's common sense to do it and im all about being 1% better at a thousand things and looking at cost effective modifications.Resurrecting this post a little but wanted to add my experience with refurbed units. I sent my throttle bodies off to Andy Hoile for refurbishment. Wow what a difference! My Tamora suffered from a horrendous misfire/stall at high revs verging on the dangerous where the throttle pots would send duff information to the ECU when they vibrated and momentarily stalling the engine.
Took the throttle bodies off myself and reinstalled with new gaskets from Andy after the refurb. Turnaround was fast. Also thanks for the advice setting them up.
It has transformed the car for me. There was always that thought in the back of mind that it could possibly mess about and would always do it at precisely the wrong time. I now need to order some new tyres to help get the power down onto the road!
