Are We Valued... Or Just Used?

Isn't it interesting to see that a website & forum built on and commercially profiteering from the free contributions of enthusiasts, will remove a harmless post that was clearly of interest to those very people that make their whole business model viable

Are they so without commercial confidence that they feel threatened by such posts? I can only assume advertising revenues must be at rock bottom to stimulate such short sighted fear induced controls.

To the moderator that deleted my "Chimaera Cutaway" post I ask you to reveal your salary from the Haymarket Media Group and confirm how much of this organisation's profits are shared with the contributors that make the whole thing possible?... IE us!

I fully expect this perfectly reasonable opinion to be deleted in minutes, probably on the request of one of the traders that continue to post on these pages without consequence, but before it disappears please feel free to add your opinion.

Its a free forum after all.... or is it?

The way I've always understood pistonheads to work, even before Haymarket took over, was it's 'someones' forum they make the decisions on what is okay and what isn't. There's loads of things that do and don't get picked up on, st hot on name and shame, lax on adverts in forums depending on who you are etc etc
It runs along the lines of if you, that's a general you not you. don't like it then do one.

To be fair to PH I think they binned my post not because of my content but because someone else posted a link to the artist who created the Griffith cutaway.

Shame really, the Chimaera cutaway idea seemed to be gaining momentum

I reported the thread back to HM and asked if they were OK with it and they came back and said no and had removed it.

I've been thinking this for ages,,,
To be fair to big Al these forums are a legal minefield but common sence should prevail,
We talk about many products from many Tvr sources and promote them on here,,,,what's the difference here,,,
It's a freaking drawing of a rare and wonderful car,,,it can't break, so a talented artist earns a few quid whilst some of us get a piece of artwork of our Tvr,,
He's hardly gonna earn a fortune now is he,,,
Big Al ,,,can you advise as to how we can re post this topic so we can discuss the matter because for some of us this is a great idea and the more Tvr's ,,,even drawings of them that are about the better,,

Of course they said no, that's their catch all policy, to ask is to hear no!

Put it back please or if it's gone for good at least allow me to reinstate it... please!

I stand to make zero personal gain from the post, the Chimaera cutaway is an idea from one TVR enthusiast that may or may not be of interest to his fellow TVR enthusiasts, let the forum decide if it has merit.

Isn't PH meant to be all about the enthusiast, as Alun says my post is really no different to a group buy!

To HM I say... try not to forget it's the enthusiasts that make this forum what it is, without the generosity of our freely given contributions there would be no Piston Heads!

And if they don't get that, tell them it would mean no advertising revenue.

Neither of your quoted examples are strictly speaking businesses in the commercial enterprise sense of the word, simply because unlike a business they are not governed by the free market rules of profit and loss.

Oh no, I've sparked a huge debate over on the TVR Chimaera FaceBook page, it's really busy over there so best I log out of PH and take my free contributions elsewhere... or I'll be missing out.

Hard to believe FaceBook have built such a successful business model all without the need to deploy draconian control systems.

Perhaps this is why I find myself left asking...

Well its all over FaceBook now and generating a lot of interest, I freely posted the artist's email address... because like I said in my original (now deleted) post...

"I have nothing to gain from the idea of a Chimaera cutaway".

Ho hum, perhaps its time for me to follow the herd and switch my alliance to FaceBook... or Blatters... or one of the many other forum platforms that exist?

As per my comment on Blatters I would love it if the TVR community could escape the hold PH has on them. PH died for me when Haymarket took over and changed the target audience. My PH activity took a steep drop as I found new outlets for my social chat, I continue to contribute on the PH TVR forums but that is now the limit of my PH activity. It's all about content and community size and currently PH holds a very healthy majority.

....and yes I am still interested in a cutaway
