For next year's event we will be staying on Houx in a camper van. We will be hiring one so I have no idea how big the water/waste tanks will be.

What do people do when it comes time to empty the waste tanks? I dont think there are on site tip on site.

We are thinking of hiring a 4-6 berth van with an onboard loo and shower.

Most of the sites do have a disposal point. It ain't high tech - usually a man hole that you open and then dump.... It works for cassettes. Not sure what you do if it's a motorhome with a 'dump' point underneath....

the main toilet block has "squats" perfect for emptying your cassette toilet.

On Tertre Rouge where we are the man hole cover is normally loose behind the toilet block so we empty toilet cassette and white water down there. We take a spare 25 litre plastic container to drain the white water tank and try to minimise it by washing up in bowl outside and throwing water directly rather than tipping it down sink and blocking up waste system of motorhome with bits of food. wink

Thanks for all your help. We have chosen our accommodation for next year, a 5 berth van with shower and toilet. The chap from the hire company said that you can dispose of chemical loos down the campsite toilets, as another poster mentioned above.

It will be nice to have a spot of luxury next year!

Wouldn't bother with the camper shower, it will use all your hot water. At best they're a glorified wash. Like, get wet, turn off, soap up, rinse. The showers at the top of Houx by the entrance to the track are pretty good though.

With regards to the onboard loo, up to you, but we have a strict 'no solids' rule!

We will see how the shower goes. We wanted a bit more comfort especially for my dad as he's not as young as he used to be and sleeping in a tent isn't the most comfortable experience for a week's stay. Personally I dont enjoy queuing for the showers and loos so if that can be made more comfortable then I'll be happy.

The single biggest benefit I think will be the reassurance that a late night loo break wont mean trekking through the campsite.

From experience over that last few years with a motor home, as long as you arrive with full fresh tanks and empty waste tank, you'll be ok. Normal capacity is 100l fresh water and 90l grey. Toilet waste is normally separate and will probably need daily emptying.
Two people showering and washing for 4 days should be ok with 100l fresh water as long as you're sensible.
Take a bucket and a watering can with you and you can top up or drain off as needed anyway.
Make use of the aires on the journey (All the Aires France book) to extend your stay in France. They're in most towns and offer water plus charging for batteries. Many offer overnight stops too for a few Euro.
France is great for motorhoming, Shame I've sold mine!
