Hi Guys,
Looks like i might have to have surgery on my ear (as above)
Anyone had any experience of it ? If so, just wondered what the outcome was ?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Yes, I had one a few years ago- I posted on pages two and three of the topic below. It takes a while to recover depending on exactly what you're having done, the inner ear repairs itself slowly and if you're having tissue removed and redeployed to help the repair it can affect your jaw movement for a bit. Feel free to ask specifics.

I really appreciate your response, thanks so much, i was beginning to think i was the only one in the world with all those horrible symptoms !
I'm due to see the surgeon in Feb 2016, i've been putting the op off for a couple of years now, but i think its getting me down so much that i'll bite the bullet.
He told me that it could get infectted, also that the op itself might not make any difference in improving my left ear hearing, but apparantly the NHS have to give the worse scenario.
Where did you have yours done can i ask ?

I had mine done privately by ENT specialist Johnny Harcourt at Charing Cross hospital in London (he does NHS surgery once a week at the same place). I'm assuming you've got a Cholesteatoma? If so it is not something you want to live with and having the op is a no brainer imo however there are risks because it is a very intrusive. That said mine has proved to be successful and whilst I only have circa 65% hearing in the impacted ear it's significantly better than before, the gunging and gurgling has gone and it generally feels good not to be carrying an infection.

The risk is potential face paralysis but it is rare. I felt very reassured in that JH was both consultant and surgeon and was very candid about the whole situation.

What it seems i have (and to be honest the consultant/surgeon goes on a bit with his jargon) which i never seem to understand, anyway, theres too
much fluid in my ear, its been ongoing for ages now, i've also had for years tinnitus and menieres desease, which does'nt help matters on the hearing/balance front, theres good days and bad days, some where i literally have to go to bed, oh and lots of headaches.
Its the simple things that i miss, like when i go out in one of my old cars, roof down, i cant hear that fantastic noise coming out of the exhaust like i used too !
I'm in the Bromley Kent area, so will be having the op in Farnbourough i think, but not sure yet, time and place still to be decided.
Anyway, onwards and upwards, i feel quite positive about the situation, it cant be any worse than what i'm going through at the moment.
Keep in touch.

Just sat in hospital having had a combined approach timpanoplasty, ear is a bit sore but not too bad considering its been all but cut off.

Biggest problem at the mo is a swollen epiglottis from the anaesthetic.

Feels good to get the bd cut out at last smash
