Hilux rear light

I have a non 4wd 2002 Toyota Hilux with a towbar.
The left rear /brake light is faulty. It's a twin element bulb which I have changed. I have checked the fuses are ok and replaced the rear lights relay.
The brake light element in the bulb works it's just the rear light element in the bulb which is not working.
It's this rear left side that the tow bar electrics are spliced into. Indicators and reversing bulbs all function as they should on this left side.
The spliced connectors seem in good order and I can't find any lose wires in the area.
Has anyone got any idea what I should check next please?
I should mention that all three bulbs in this rear left cluster share the same earth and as said before the other two bulbs function well.
