Best way to invest 50k?
Discussion
Hi All,
Given the recent BTL changes, this does not seem such a good way to invest (all relative...). So given £50k, what would be a good way to invest this? Below are my circumstances/requirements:
I have one property which is BTL and I'm overpaying on, to pay back the mortgage
Whatever I invest in, I'd love for it to become a passive income stream for my retirement (ok I'm only 29 but like to think ahead!)
I have no kids/wife
I do invest in a stocks and shares ISA but this rarely goes up!
Thanks

Pay down your BTL mortgage to reduce your sensitivity to further restrictions on BTL sector e.g. banks increasing BTL mortgage rates due to Basel III, restriction on interest only mortgages for BTL etc.
Increasing your equity cushion protects your ability to refinance in case of house price falls.

Assuming you're a 40 taxpayer, how about investing in pension with full tax relief?
Although I never really see the point of borrowing money you've already got. So paying down debt has considerable appeal.
Otherwise if there's two of you, you could have the whole lot invested in tax relieved ISAs by the end of April 2016. Keeps you flexible.

Um another btl? Where abouts in the country are you? Ive just paid a smidgen under 60k for a 3 bed btl here in Leeds. If your in the SE however it might only get you a dolls house as oposed to most of a real house
Edit- just read through your post again, never mind
although i do think btl is still a viable investment even with the SDLT and interest relief changes

Of course I understand bubbles. I mean all the exact parts of the graph that's always posted on threads like this.
It looks exactly like the first Shanghai one I posted. In any case - what is the point you are trying to make?
Bubbles don't look exactly like that chart?

That's what most people think at the top of a bubble.

The dotcom bubble was probably the same.

No, that a bubble graph is a very simple bell-ish curve. The one posted with FOURTEEN annotations on it does not represent a typical bubble, just the very occasional one and is the sort of sIn any case - what is the point you are trying to make?

t that people post on Facebook to try and appear all-knowing. Just an annoying, over-used, pretty inaccurate alternative to saying 'bit of a bubble'.
