Where can I get brake spares for a 2011 Hotrock 20?

Any idea how to get spares for the brakes for a 2011 Hotrock 20?

I was cleaning up one of my kids' bikes ready to sell it when I noticed the return spring was missing from the rear V brake.

The website just has them listed as "V-brake, alloy, linear pull" which doesn't really help.

I guess these sorts of things might be generic? Or maybe not? Any suggestions?

Doh. Meant to do that yesterday. I'll go to the LBS at lunchtime to see if any of their kids bikes have a similar set up.

Tomorrow I think I'll pop off the front one and bring it in.

Well it looks like you can get v brakes or mini v brakes for not much at all so I'll take a set in to the LBS tomorrow and take it from there.

Well it turns out that V brakes are universal and you can buy a whole set for £7.99. I could have paid less but wanted to pick these up on the way home.

I realise it's too late but yes, V brakes are universal.

Have you had a go at setting them up yet?

Thanks Deadtom. When I took them to Evans it confirmed that they were regular V Brakes. I then picked up a cheap (Clarks) set from Halfords on the way home.

Lo and behold they are so universal that the springs were virtually identical. So I just swapped the inner fittings over and added the springs and voila, sorted (wanted to keep it looking standard).

Gave the bike a clean and polish at the weekend, an all-round lube and brake adjustment today and got a buyer this afternoon on eBay.

A six year old in Shropshire is going to get a nicely fettled, lightly-used bike for Christmas.

And I've got a little eBay fund for toys and Christmas presents.

good work, although it's unusual to go to the effort of switching parts around to keep using the original arms and whatnot, as after market changes almost always increase the value of a mountain bike (unlike with cars)

Just thought mis-matched arms front and rear would look a bit naff (especially with the white CLARKS logo). The fellah paid top dollar so I thought I'd give him something that looked original.
