Rejuvenating old music cd's ??

So, whats the best way to clean up my old music cd's, as some are slightly scratched on the surface. I know the obvious thing is look after them in the first place but have seen these gadgets for doing what i need. Not major gouges but small whispey scratches that seem to annoy when not wanted.

So are they complete rubbish and a waste of money or do they work. Or what do others do to eliminate scratches??

Iv had luck using a cheapo disc refresher from poundland and using toothpaste as a cutting medium.
