Hi everyone,

My exhaust has finally given up after numerous beatings from speed cushions and I need to get a new one. I've seen loads of posts regarding sports exhausts and stainless exhausts, so I'm looking for the definitive "this is the one to get" exhaust. I love the look of the stainless with the gap in the middle (rather than the two pipes close together like my standard one now).

The local council will be paying so cost isn't the main issue, but if anyone could suggest somewhere local around North West / North Wales area that would be great.

Thanks all...

Bravo, you actually got the council to agree to buy you a new one, fantastic!

JP exhausts from ACT are considered the best.

I have just had a bespoke system built to replicate the standard one but it's a straight through and is high quality stainless (mirror finish box and front pipes). It's a bit too loud to be honest and I'll need to get a pair of tail pipes with restrictors.

No really it is too loud, and unfortunately when it's idling it just sounds like it's blowing badly.

If you've ever heard a monster truck which has hardly any exhaust to speak of ....well it's like that!

It does sound above 1100rpm though. I'm going to fit a pair of restrictive tail pipes or inserts as I've reproduced this restriction manually and it sounds fine.

Second vote for the JP/ACT system. I have one on mine (ok, it's a custom job and extremely loud, but) the quality is superb and it looks and sounds the dogs bits.

Cerb's are quiet

Had a Cerb follow me on the Mid-Essex convoy… apparently he had to check to see if he'd stalled when we sat at a junction.. … oh and apparently the Chim spits, cracks and pops too

Just been to a local exhaust centre, and he's making a custom built stainless system (manifold back) for £340 complete and fitted. Sounds like a good deal to me! Now got to decide which types of tail pipes I want and where out the back they'll exit. I like the seperate pipes either side rather than through the middle, but undecided on the size & style of the tail yet... any thoughts anyone?

For anyone who's interested, email me for details of the garage, it's called Alunox, in Wrexham.

Bear in mind that the exhaust isn't just a pair of pipes out of the back. You have to have the correct pipe lenght and diameter for adequate backpressure that the Cologne likes to run with or you will lose power. These are what the baffle help nprovide.

I hate to say this but that does sound a bit expensive for a custom one. The off the shelf fully developed system is around the same price from ACT, albeit not including fitting.

I've just had the same thing, a custom built system, and it cost me £200 less than you've been quoted.

I was also able to ask for extras such as a skid plate the entire length of the front section and rear silencer to protect it from grounding.
