Couple of years or so ago I was at an engine builders workshops in Lincolnshire and a certain well known person (who built the 5.0 lump in beastie) was (in his own time) rebuilding his Dad's P&J... If memory serves, the Dad in question was 67 years old, and his P&J being rebuilt (lost it on a roundabout, allegedly due to another vehicles diesel spillage) was a 7.2 litre Cobra replica... Rob actually fired it up.. it had side pipes, and a mate I'd taken along had his foot right under the passenger side exhaust exit just as Rob turned the key, should have warned him really biggrin

Anyhow, point is we have a 67 year old gentleman hooning a 7.2 litre Cobra around the English countryside... Typically, we might expect 67 year old gentleman to be out driving around the countryside in a Japanese box with wife in the passenger seat and doing a constant 40mph.. in 30 and 70 limits, usually on Sundays smile

So, to the point, I'm rapidly approaching my 65th birthday, my reactions have slowed noticeably over the last five years, my eyesight is degenerating at a pace, I'm becoming less and less tolerant of other road users, and yet I'm still driving beastie (on occasion - not all the time) like I just stole it biggrin

My back is knackered and I'm not sure I'll ever ski again... and my memory is particularly vague... notwithstanding this I'm going skiing next winter, although I can't remember who with..

I guess my point or question is, when should we stop this lunacy... why do I still feel the need to floor it when boy racer sits up my arse, and will I die before I grow up....

Pipe and slippers my arse biggrin

Age IS a state of mind. Following that mantra I should be good for at least another 50 years......;) unlikely I know but conforming to the 'stereotype' is not the way of TVR owners is it?

I think back to when my Dad was 53, he'd have never worn jeans and a T shirt at home let alone be seen out of the house or garden in them (indeed I don't think he ever owned a T shirt) whereas I have a massive collection of them collected from years of gig going.... don't think he ever went to one of those either....

Times are so different... I don't have a suit other than my DJ and the last time I wore a tie was..... err can't remember.

What where we talking about? wink

I thought i was going pipe & slippers when i sold my Tamora and bought a 5ltr Griff. How wrong i was,the low down torque is amazing.I seem to be driving the Griff a lot faster than the Tam.It might be down to the fact that you have get the Tam to over 5K revs to really get it moving.

That first line is sooooo true - ya knobhead, ya w*nker, have ya got a f*cking licence? See how your vocabulary expands as you get older?

Its all a testosterone fuelled thingy, proving to these 17 year squirts that grandad can still hack it and ain't past it tumbleweed

Dear Richard, whilst I cannot comment on your apparent deterioration (as I am also a mere 52 year old pup) I'm sure that someone will consider you as a potential restoration project! laugh

Joking aside, my ex-postman who is now 68 (he's on PH from time to time, forum name JohnOliver) I believe and still doing some part time in the sorting office has recently finished (for now) modifying his RS Focus to 400hp ! and he still drives it like he stole it !! So don't worry there's plenty of hope left yet thumbup

Do yourself a favour, get yourself a Go Racing Pack off the MSA and pass your ARDS test, It'll make you feel 10 years younger!

Coming on 64, sold the M5 for a Chim 4 years ago and never looked back. Still ride my Ducati TT replica (after 30 minutes I know my age!!!!). Thus have now added a Street Triple R. Your are as old as your enthusiasm.

Pah, you boys Alex!

Yep, count me in, over 60, (just).

Trying to squeeze in as many TDs, sprints and drag days before I die or forget what I'm doing...............

Out of interest, I let other people's poor driving go most of the time. What really gets my goat now as I'm getting older is people who speak with up speak, say "like" all the time, use the word basically when you don't need to and are generally arses!

Hey, 68 almost 69 but still love my Griff [don't drive it as fast as I would have if I'd bought it when I was 20] Hope to still be driving it at 80.
