Help for a newbie please. What is the red handle in the fuse box for. I don't like pulling red handles. We could do without launching a nuke at Putin right now!

Also my s6 hit traffic this weekend. Got to 115 on the temp. No fans, but also no steam or explosions😬
I'm very worried that my cooling system is not working. Normally it runs happy as Larry at about 70-80. Rises a lot when the engine switches off.

Any help great fully received.

Hi from a 'next to newbie' - Sp. Six picked up in January. There will be others better qualified on the technical front. But from experience to date: don't run it anywhere near traffic until you get the operation of the fans checked out. A local garage that you trust should be well qualified to test the thermostat, operation of the fans, check for air locks and the real temps from a digital thermometer (so different from the capillary action tube feeding the TVR gauge). Ask them to keep a close eye on temps so it doesn't overheat under test conditions. Look for any mayonnaise around the oil cap or dipstick - if concerned about the head gasket get the coolant checked for hydrocarbons. My Cerb had overheating issues but has been sorted by adding a Craig Davies 150 EWP which boosts the mechanical pump, and the twin fans replaced by a single Spal 16inch high current fan with a custom shroud cut from aluminium sheet. I upgraded the oil cooler to a Laminovo oil to water item. The digital controller with the Craig Davies, set to a target temp of 90C, lets you know precisely what is going on, and it has never over heated since. Also the EWP and fan keep working for a minute or two after the engine has switched off, to prevent heat soak. All expensive, but worthwhile (only if no underlying cause for overheating is identified). You need to protect your investment by keeping things cool!

Cerbs really shouldn't need an additional water pump to prevent them overheating! You need to sort the underlying issue. As mentioned above, check cooling fans, remove the engine bay cover to expose the fans, there are two white plugs close to them, often full of green detritus which prevent the fans cutting in. It's worth having someone hook up the diagnostics to check the true tempreture too, as the temp guage is of the capillary type, often the tube is routed incorrectly on the r/h side of the engine bay which will make it read high. Either way, get to the bottom of it before using it too much more...

I've checked oil and water this evening. Oil is fine. Coolant is slightly lower than when I last checked. However, the cap wasn't very tight at all. Could all be down to the pressure?

Still no help on that bloody red handle. I darent pull it.

What is the point in that? I'm aware of the other handle that does this in the cabin, but why have one in another electronically locked compartment?

I'm a bit worried about my 4.2 now, I don't think I've ever heard the fans on mine kick in. From memory it stays around 85-90, is that normal? Then again it might be because I just can't hear them over the exhaust note.

85-90 is normal.. Have you checked the temp on the ecu using the RS-AJP app?

You don,t really believe what TVR gauges say smile as they they thats normal sir, if it was reading 115 then the fans would be working overtime to cool the engine down, there is a program you can download and plug in that will tell you the correct temp, funny though mine is spot on in my Cerb checked it out on program and fans kick in at 92 and that is what the gauge reads unlike my T350 which used to show 125 before fans kicked in but that was a dirty connection,

FWIW I can't really hear the fans start on my V8. If you put your hand out the window you can feel the hot air blowing out from under the car.

Getting Aide's RS-AJP app (does that work on the Speed Six?) is a must though IMHO. Such a handy thing to have along with an Android phone and a cable in the cubby hole plus Allen key for the ECU lid!

I assume Lincs explained in his PM what the red handle is used for?

I've got evo Ollies app for my laptop. That tells the temp too. I've not thought to run the engine that long to get a temp teasing. I'll give it a go. Great to get real time data.

Yes Lincs pm explained. Does everyone know that is where Sadam hid his WMDs. Pull it and the car behind you melts.

I don't have a front number plate on mine so I wonder if that helps with cooling. As for the RS AJP app I really wouldn't know where to start, I'm still new to Cerbera ownership and don't know all the ins and outs yet.

Nope not sorted. The fans will happily keep it at about 94-96 on the dial.

After I switch off, no fans, temp runs away like mad. No fans with ignition either.

When I start the engine again, it quickly drops back down to 94-96 again.

Is this because the sensor for the gauge is on the side of the block and heat soak keep warming it up?

After switching the engine off try turning the ignition back on but don't start it and see if the fans come on.

I find the car suffers from heat soak when switched off on my drive after a long run, I leave mine for a minute with the ignition on and engine off to allow the fans to cool it down.
