Pioneer SC-LX88 Purchase question
Discussion
Hi,
I am looking to purchase the above mentioned amp. The cheapest I have seen it is £1400. No one is moving from this price.
I have found a supplier in Germany selling it for £1150 delivered. What will be the situation with the warranty? Is it valid in the UK i.e. do I call up a Pioneer repair centre in the UK to sort it out?
Also, speaking to a few HiFi shops I found out there is not really the supply of LX88 out there. It is unlikey prices will drop below £1400. Once the stock is sold, it is sold. Pioneer have no more as its now end of production.
Thanks Folks.

Sevenoaks don't stock Pioneer as they have had too many failure
Not sure if this was just marketing/ sales approach to push what they stock
i think you will find this to be incorrect. Not sure if this was just marketing/ sales approach to push what they stock

Have you considered the Yamaha RXA3040?
I have not heard Yamaha for a few years. I did a Pioneer lx86 vs Yamaha's equivalent model. Pioneer was so much more punchy.
Not sure how the Yamaha sounds.
I am also looking at getting the B&W 803D speakers. I will need to make sure the amp can drive these speakers.
Are these the speakers you mean?

If they are, then I'd look seriously at changing how you spend your money - speakers like those will only show up how poor your amplifier is. Ideally you should split your budget equally between source and speakers.

I've never agreed with that. There is so little difference in amplifiers, and such a big difference in speakers that it's well worth spending a lot on speakers, and then getting an OK amp. Of course it needs to be good enough, with enough power to easily drive the speakers to the level you want but spending an equal amount of speakers and amp? I don't know. I'd rather have the 803 speakers and the pioneer amp than 804's and an expensive amp...also it does give you an upgrade path, in the future OP can get a better amp, but if everything is balanced he's got no where to go.As with everything, and especially when spending this much, the OP should go and audition.

If you go to any reputable hi-fi dealer they'll disagree - if your source is rubbish then it'll sound rubbish no matter what you do to it.As with everything, and especially when spending this much, the OP should go and audition.
