So Im noticing that my tires, all 4, are getting a bit thin on the outsides. At first I was thinking it might need an alignment. Then I got to thinking ... Would one track day of fairly aggressive driving cause this wear pattern to appear 8000 mile later? I don't want to spend the money to get it aligned if it's just the track wear finally manifesting itself as the tires wear down.

Thoughts?

If it is the outside, you could be running negative camber, which is typical in a performance alignment. I'm not sure what the AM standard specs are, but they are probably a bit aggressive. Are you running soft tires? I only get about 10,000 -12,000 miles (US) out my Bridgestones.

Think you mean positive camber if the wear is on the outside. Outside wear can also be caused by too much toe in.

I'm running Michelin PSS. The front and rears are all showing wear on the outsides. If I do go for an alignment what does it usually run $$? Something I can get my wife for Christmas?

Outer wear on all four is unusual
Hard cornering/track use would do it if you didn't adjust the tyre pressures
As would positive camber
Is it even across all four?
If so it's the track work
I'd still be getting 4 wheel laser alignent done as ANY RWD car benefits from it been correctly/well set up wink

A track day clould well cause it, but it would obviously show up straight away - there's no way it will effect future wear and only take effect many thousands of miles later. It may just be more noticable once the tyres are more worn and your looking more closely at the wear.

As mentioned above, insuffucient negative camber will cause the outsides of the tyres to wear. You should still have some negative camber but it may not be enough.

Incorrect tyre pressures usually cause tyre wear on both edges but too much toe-in will also wear the outer edges. I would recommend the front and rear toe are checked for now but a full 4 wheel alignment be done when new tyres are fitted.

An agressive track day will significantly accelerate outer edge tyre wear, but this may be less noticeable on newish tyres and it is only now that you are noticing the additional wear now that the tyres are getting lower.

That's what I'm thinking. They were a week old when I took it to the track. All the wear now showing up is on outside quarter of tires.
