R8 - Routing power for a Tomtom Satellite navigation

I may be getting a Tomtom for Christmas (if I've been good), and as the new ones only have a couple of hours' battery life, may want to route power to it from behind the dashboard.
If it's complex, or difficult, I may just stick a portable charger underneath it on a non-slip mat (I prefer not to have a wire trailing up from the cigarette lighter), but it'd be good to have permanent power if possible.
Is there anyone who'd done similar, and is there an easy route to do so?
