Hi all

just a quick project to pass the time

I'm repainting a couple of Hotwheels 917k's in the Gulf livery.

For a hotwheels car I'm really impressed with these, nicely done and a repaint shouldn't be too tricky

drilled out the rivets and prized apart

Chrome interiors stripped with Mr Muscle oven cleaner

Bodyshells soaked in stripper and nice and clean

Skii, I've got one of the Airfix kits unmade if you're interested in it?

cheers for the offer Morf but I wouldn't have the time for a full blown kit right now, if I do ever get properly back into the hobby I've got a part converted Tamiya 956 (long tail to short tail) an Apollo Saturn V and an Apache gunship to get on with.

Based on how these go I might do another in Attwood's 1970 livery smile

Nice little project - looking forward to seeing them finished.

I've got the 1970 Attwood 917 in 1:18 (AutoArt) on my bookshelf. It looks great.

They look so much better already without the thick, blobby paint on them.

If you do decode to go 'Attwood', I think I have some artwork for the eyelashes that could be scaled down to suit.

Hi Red

Thanks for the offer, I'm probably going to get the full set from Patto's place for the Attwood car(s)

So here's the body shells painted with Humbrol 47 which is a fairly close match

and finally all decalled up. the decals were from ebay and bloody horrendous so if I ever do this project again I'll get the complete set from Pattos

Nicely done, far far better than the original.

Are the decals waterslide? The roundels look awfully thick?

Thanks guys

Red - yes well spotted, the roundels are vinyl stickers, not idea but all I could procure given the timescale (building one for my brother in law)

The next batch will use much better decals.

Easiest way to do roundels without resorting to thick vinyl:

1 - Spray bodyshell white.
2 - When dry cut out masking tape in shape of roundels and apply.
3 - Spray bodyshell in final colour.
4 - When dry remove tape.

Failing that, surely you could find some white decal sheet? If you buy it from craftycomputerpaper.co.uk, you could even use your computer to print the numbers on.

They look really good, great job.

My only other suggestion for an improvement would be to reduce the depth of the panel lines a bit...would it be possible to fill them and rescribe them? Might just be a bit fiddly and awkward around corners though.

But I love what you've done there, really cool.
