So, I used to play a lot of games on my PC years ago - Half-Life, Unreal, Modern Warfare, etc.

Haven't really played anything in the last 5 years. But now I have a lovely 27" top of the range iMac that just begging for a game to be played!

So what is good?

Alien Isolation looks good, as does Outlast and Company of Heros 2.

Anything else I should know of?

Fallout 4 is the current game of choice around these parts.
Star Wars
Elite

What do you like?

Actually, I just realise that only Elite on that list is native Mac.

Yeah, Fallout 4 looks immense.

I suppose I could run Parallels and stick Windows on it.....

If you want to play Fallout 4, you will need to use BootCamp, not Parallels to get acceptable performance.

I tried wineskin and ran a few Steam games (running the steam client with wineskin). The games I had when I was using a windows laptop. At your own risk and all that. No need for parallels but a bit of faffing required.

Steam also has a dedicated Mac section now.

Aspyr have a good few as does Feral Interactive. Both end up to some extent through the Mac App Store but not all versions will be the same as the PC. e.g. RAGE does not have the same add ons that the PC version has but looks exellent.

Aspyr.

Follow the section to "store" and you can log in to that games agent section and input your specs and it will tell you what will run. For example, Metro Last light will run on mine but the Redux versions will not, something to do with the nvidia drivers. However nvidia has released a stand alone up date but it will not run on OSX 10.11.2. (last I checked a few weeks ago)

Borderlands available in their various incarnations. Not played the pre sequel though.

Edit. Wineskin I tried at my own risk after a bit of research.

I wanted to play Fallout 3 on it but I had initially bought disk version. As it will run the steam client, I will await a deal on FO3 and try it that way.

Bioshock Infinite if that floats your boat, worth a punt.

Install Steam and have a look through their Mac section.

Counter Strike, Dota, all of the glorious Valve games. HL2, Portal etc.

Cheers guys, will have a play tonight.

I've installed Steam (had it before on my PC) and I've managed to remember my username and password so currently installing Counter Strike which I didn't get round to finishing.

Have looked at that Aspyr site and it appears my iMac can run all of the games (so it should!).

I'd rather not go down the road of installing Windows so I'm going to crack on with some games from Steam.

Bootcamp it for decent games performance

but if its a 5k mac like mine do it with Windows 7/8 so you get the full 5K res in Windows as Windows 10 drivers dont support 5K res as yet.

That's interesting..... yes I do have a 5k Mac. I have a 64bit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate sitting in my desk.

Apple's latest bootcamp update added 5k support.

Although Fallout 4 in 4k & ultra only gets you about 30fps.

Is there a single player mode in Elite? Prefer single player myself. Or have missed something and it is a DRM thing for an internet connection?

Later X3 games by Egosoft are OK ish, if that is your want (whilst not as good as EliteI am told)

Played Elite for ages on the old Amstrad, green screen monitor to boot.
