LS7/Motec Specialist in the SEast

Hello all, I was hoping someone could recommend an Ultima specialist with knowledge of LS7/Motec combo located anywhere in the S. East. I currently have a fuelling issue, but beyond this I'm looking for someone who can maintain/fix on a regular basis. The car has most recently been worked on by Autobionics but they are not a realistic choice for a Kent based car. I have forum "searched" and have tried S Smith but he is booked out until the end of the decade (and I think only does large projects), Southways might be an option (but would prefer someone closer). Any other suggestions please?

These guys are mustard for setting up your fuelling, not an Ultima specialist but they are a couple of very knowledgeable chaps who WILL get your engine running and well mannered.If you want "proper" numbers and no bull this is the place to go.
Be prepared for a long day. These guys don't mess about, they carry on until a job is done which can mean waiting for the previous car to be finished beyond your booking time and yours starting later which can then mean you are there till 02:00
I have been there several times after midnight.
There is a late night Kebab van on the road outside though so you can get some chips while you are waiting.

We (Southways) would not be able to map your system.If you want "proper" numbers and no bull this is the place to go.

Have used Steve Greenald for another project car we had here and agree they are very thorough. Also agree you may be there for the long haul.

Sam helped me considerably with the Motec setup and installation, as well as the mapping... mapping is only a small part of what they do, they do a lot of high end modified cars from start to finish so can easily support an Ultima with Motec

Hi Jim,
As very first thought, how much fuel do you have in the tank as the gauge ins not great. Do you have a tank selected (some cars have this).
Following on from that.....
This relates to a MoTec M800 ECU but other may be the same. The only proviso is that if you screw it up it's your own fault:-)
When you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds?
If not the system is not "priming" itself and therefore it won't start as you've go no fuel pressure so no fuel to the injectors.
If was working before and now not it's likely something like a fuse or a fuel pump relay that is gone. If those are OK, then you're into wiring or the fuel pump(s) being dead.
If you turn the ignition on and the pump runs for a very short time (e.g. 1 or 2 seconds) then it turns off your fuel pump delay may be too short which may mean there's not enough fuel pressure. Please note mine is longer than you'd normally have as I have no cold start system so I have the pump run so I can "prime" the fuel like an old fashion carb. You can change this delay in the ECU. NOTE you might want to check this quickly first as if's set to 0 then the pump won't run when the ignition is turned on what ever you do.
The MoTec website has lots of info (manuals and webinars) and software (you'll need a ECU manager programme for your ECU). http://www.motec.com/downloads/

That is a set of very useful pointers - it's not fuel - that was my first thought. I don't think it's the fuel pump but I had thought about fuses but frankly have no idea where they are or what to look for when I find them - but tomorrow the search begins.

As long as the car was in their workshop they would look an all issues.... the often build up race cars which mean every common end is changed or modified in their workshop.In my case I like to do as much as I can, I have even dabbled in the motec mapping for stuff like idle and safeties/logging etc.... but full on mapping I leave to Sam as otherwise i would break it lol.
