Interesting one here. A year ago or so someone gave me a non working generator, think it's a "Blue Spot" brand. (Is that Lidl or similar?) Anyway the other day I cleaned the dead fuel out, added fresh 50:1 and gave it a try. Dead. OK. Pulled the plug, pretty clean, threw some fuel in the spark plug hole, had another go. It ran, briefly, then died again. So it's a safeish bet that the thing has sparks and compression and probably a clogged carb, in usual 2str fashion. So I'm going to pull it to bits and clean out the carb, blow through the jets with an airline, fresh fuel, see what happens. Anything I need to look out for? Been a long time since I stripped a 2T carb.

Don't expect too much from these cheap two stroke generators. They use a self excited alternator design which provides pretty poor regulation, and they tend to blow the rectifier diodes on the armature if you put too much load on them.

They have a very simple carb, so you shouldn't have any great difficulty stripping and cleaning it.

Thanks Mike,
I'm not expecting marvels from the thing, as you say it's a cheap number and the only use it will get is occasional portable power for lighting etc. I was given it after all and all I want to do is get it running so I can test it. If the electrical side of it is dead, no great loss, but my best guess is that it's been used a few times over the course of a summer and then left with stale fuel which has clogged the jets. My best guess is that if I can blast them through with a bit of air and reassemble the thing it just might start.
