Anyone planning on doing it?
Done one in the past?

24th - 40 hilly miles.
25th - 0
26th - I'll be at inlaws, so bike back, 80 flat miles.
27th - 65 hilly miles with club.
28th - 0
29th - I'll be at inlaws, so bike back, 80 flat miles.
30th - 40 hilly miles.
31st - whatever's remaining with the missus.
Never done aynthing like this before so looking forward to it.!

Did it two years ago, purely to keep me motivated whilst I was off work ... towards the end it made me miserable as I rode 90% on my own.
If we get some decent (not pissing it down) weather then I may do it by default. The problem is if I sign up to something, I have to complete it ... so I'm keeping quiet.
In your case, I can guarantee it will be blazing sunshine when you're at the in-laws and hammering it down with rain on your riding days!!

I'm going to give it a crack this year.
The plan so far is:
24th - 100 miler or as close as possible
25th-29th - I'm working so I'll try and extend my commute each day, should be around 30 miles per day
30th & 31st - Days off so I'll try and split the remaining 60 or so miles between the two days.
1st & 2nd I'm back at work so they're going to be rest days before I'm doing the 4h singlespeed race at the last round of the Brass Monkeys series.
I'm kind of looking forward to it, going to be hard work though.

I signed up to it once, but it's tough completing something like that when there is a lot of competition for your time (wife/kids/cooking/in-laws, etc) and daylight is limited.
I could easily complete the distance in the time, in fact I may have done so a few times this year already. I'm just not selfish enough to get out every spare moment over the festive season. If I happen to get near to the distance anyway, I'll sign up toward the end, but as a challenge generally, I've decided it's not one that really fits into my life...

I would like to do it but...
1) 500k is about what I have averaged a month since the summer, so a week is going to do me in
2) we're away 3 nights so I would be left with 125k a day
3) it's likely to be cold and damp, possibly icy, which frightens me these days
We're staying with family on the edge of the N Yorks moors, would love to ride up there but I suspect late December is NOT bike friendly!
