Everything is undone. The rack is loose but even walloping it using a 4 lb club hammer and 3 ft crow bar as leverage on the chassis on the other side I. just cannot get the steering column UJ to slide off the splines. There must be a trick to do this more easily?

Have you completely removed the bolt from the UJ??

Also try a pry bar or large screwdriver to open up the slot a bit..smile

No the bolt is just loose. Does that make a difference? Will try that.

To add to my woes the hammer just slipped and I have snapped off the connector for the oil temperature sender which is right next to it so now I have to buy and fit a new sender. I should have never have got of of bed this morning

Bolt needs to be removedbiggrin...

It sits in a groove, so UJ won't come off spline with bolt in place even if loosened...

Quincy. You are star. As soon as the bolt was out it just slid off. Thanks struggling to lift the rack out. It's jamming on the copper tubes I assume they have to come off as well

Nope, you just have to rotate it and move the arms a lot. All the way into one arch, flip the arm up and bring it out vertically.

I wrote a guide...

It's out but bad news I think. The rack is scratched and has 3 pairs of small marks on the drivers side which explains why it was leaking so badly. The scratches and marks are only on the top opposite the gears though. Is this useable or is it time to fit a scooby rack?

Upgrade to a Scooby rack and ditch the leaky original. Trust me on this, I had four rebuilds hence writing the guide smile

Thanks. Will look into that. I tried to find your guide but without success can you give me a link.

Is it a straight swap for the griff PAS rack or is there lots of fiddling? I am not bothered about hoses that is easy more the columns UJ's and shafts?
