T5 Shift Linkage

Ok great people of PistonHeads, here's the problem:

The shift linkage came apart while driving, I of course don't want to pull the gearbox out so I went in from the top, pulling the console off. in short what I found was that the gear lever stub assembly had been taken apart at some point and the common way to do that is to cut the rear tab off, pull it apart. Then when you put it back together slide the top piece into the front two tabs and weld the the assembly where you cut the rear tab off. In my case the tab wasn't welded and it fell apart on a fast shift.

So, I have it apart, I put the assembly back together and now it needs welding, I don't know anyone who can come to my house and do this so I need to pull the whole thing apart and take it to someone. Now I need to pull the linkage out of the way. I take the bolt off and it's still being held in place by a pressed in sleeve. Before I take a hammer to it, does anyone know of an easy way to get the assembly out?

If you were closer I would have popped round and welded it up for you

That is definatly not the way to do things and is a bodge (how you found it) you can still remove that bolt and shims even when just working from underneath a mobile welder should be able to buzz that in situ

Thanks guys, any thoughts on getting the linkage off? the bolt has been removed and there is a sleeve of some sort holding it in place, it looks pressed in?

Mobile welder may be the only option (or best potion), what do you recon, £50?

The sleeve should just tap out.
Or find another piece of sleeve slightly smaller diameter and use that with a nut and bolt to push your sleeve through.

If the linkage is in place and drivable you could bring it in to us (Southways) for the weld.

Agree with above ^ and should of made myself clear that the person who ground/broke that tab off (how you found it) its a bodge rather than welding in situ being a bodge
