N/S radiator fan not working

I've checked the cooling system today to make sure all is in order. I've noticed that when the temperatue hits 90 deg, only the O/S fan comes on. The owners manual shows that each fan has it's own separate fuse and relay. One of the fan fuses is shared with the horn, which works. Both fan fuses look ok. I haven't taken apart the connection to the non-functioning fan yet but will test this. Can it be the case that the fans are set up to come on at different temperarures, the N/S fan set to come on at a higher temperature than the O/S one?

Could have an aftermarket fan conteoller fitted that splits the operating temperature that brings the fans in, one higher than the other, or it could be that the one fan is goosed, check for voltage when the other fan runs on the one that doesn't, if you have power the motor is dead.

Not heard of a mod to bring fans on separately so I would say it's likely the connector to the N/S fan needs cleaning. The plug coupler is located around the little lip in the body where the radiator sits and water can gather there. Should be pretty simple to test using a meter and shorting out the otter switch.

That's normally the issue, dodgy connector at the base of the radiator - just get those wires that power the fans where you can reach them, clean up the connectors, then run the car up to 90 degrees on the drive, and both should cut in.

Check to see if the fan isn't seized and spins freely (power off obviously)

Swap the connectors for both fans does the dead fan now work and the other previously working fan now not work?

Some chims had seperate fuses/relays for each of the fans so it may also be one of those gone.

also easier to bridge the connector on the otter switch to test rather than run up to temp, much easier/safer than working around hot engine/exhausts etc

Yep, as usual great advice on here. I had exactly the same problem, with one fan cutting out on a journey through France. Thought it was a bobber problem as it just stopped mid journey.
Cleaned the terminal, and it's worked ever since

It's also worth changing the fan connectors, I swapped with the connectors for new DTM waterproof ones

Fair enough, I haven't really looked into the details of those. I just thought they had variable fan speeds at certain engine temps for both fans.

All good advice above. I switched around the fan connectors, ran the engine stationary up to 90 degrees plus. Now the N/S fan works and the O/S one doesen't. So the Otter switch works correctly and both fans themselves are functionally sound. Next, I cleaned the connectors to both fans and let the car cool whilst I cooked dinner. Later, I turned on the electrics, the car now cold, bridged the connections at the otter switch and both fans come on together. Must have been a loose connection to the N/S fan as suggested above (commonest cause).
Learning useful stuff all the time. Thanks everyone.

Cleaned the connectors yourself? Shirley cleaning is woman's work?
Whereas cooking dinner is man-chef work. I trust you used every pan and worktop in the house.......and left the washing up!

LOL Yeah! I guess it does read a bit "modern man". Wife's away on business trip so having to do that kind of stuff until she gets back. I have 3 teenage children to mess up every pan and worktop for me. Wife will go ballistic when she sees the state of the place. I'll go hide in the garage again.
