Good people of PH,

I'm just after a bit of info please. I rode the Wall about 5/6 years ago and my defining memory is how much fire road climbing there was, in relation to how much down you got in return. Is this still the case, as I'm lead to believe there's more single track now?

Been watching a few video's and it looks better than I remember it.

There is more single track now! you've got a bit of fire road but no where near as much as there was.
Enjoy!

Yep, if you follow the official route and not short cut there's only 1 stretch of fire road and it's at least got a decent view on it.

In addition to the 'new' bits they put in a few years ago there is a new black graded section, fair warning this is a leftover section from a British Enduro Series race from back in the summer and it's hard going, it's not like the black section on White's Level, or the Raven at Brechfa or any of the black sections in Llandegla etc, it's very steep in parts, very loose and completely unsurfaced so doubly hard in winter.

Thanks for the heads up, sounds like I'll swerve the black section! Edit, any idea what it's called so I can Youtube it and try and get a feel for it please?

Google "Afan Stage 4"

It is not a rock bed surface like the rest of the trails and as a result very slippery in the wet.
Much steeper than it looks on video too.

Yep, that's a dry/summer ride only for me.
