So, I sold some concert tickets to a friend of a friend. We had lots of problems with them telling me they had paid me twhen they hadnt (bank transfer) All conversations conducted on facebook messenger so have a record of everything.
I sent the tickets royal mail signed for 1st class. I sent a message to the lady to confirm this had happened and she would need to sign for the tickets that would be with her the next day.
Today she has told me she hasnt recieved the tickets and wants a refund. This is 4 weeks after i told her I had sent them,.
I obviously have proof of postage and i have checked this out and it appears the tickets werent delvired as either a) address was wrong (it wasnt i doubled checked with her the day i sent them, again all message kept) b) receipient refused deliver c) unable to gain access to property d) parcel damaged (it was just a letter)
So she basically wants a refund. I dont want to be out of pockets obviously and think she is trying her luck or bought tickets cheaoer elsewhere or basically she has been a massive pain.

Any thoughts?

Did you put a return address on the envelope? It should come back to you eventually, I think it's unlikely (but not impossible) she has received them.

With the benefit of hindsight.. Special delivery is always better for signed items as it goes via a different delivery system.

Hope they turn up in time frown

Well to avoid something unpleasant, contact the royal mail and find out, then make sure you get these tickets back. If possible deliver in person, or have a courier or a friend deliver them. Apologise, and hopefully there will be no animosity. I assume the event has not yet happened?

I sent the tickets, told her id sent them the same day. Told her how id sent them. Told her when she would get them.

She then waited 4 weeks (2 weeks after the concert) to say she didnt have them and wants a full refund or she will take me to court.
I cant help but be suspicious she didnt query sooner, expecially when she knew when the tickets were for.
I suspect she got some cheaper last minute and decided she didnt want tmine. She didnt give me any time to chase up the mail delivery so that i could get them to her any other way etc. She has waited four weeks to contact me!

Breadvan always disagrees with this advice but I would do nothing. Just ignore her. How much were the tickets? Probably not enough to justify her starting a Court case.

what was the point in sending them recorded, if you were not going to actually check they were received?

The buyer may have been odd not contacting you earlier, but as the seller it's your responsibility to actually get the tickets to them, you didn't, therefore you owe them the money.

For future reference, I wouldn't dream of sending anything of value via anything other than a completely tracked method of delivery.

I would disagree with this. I send stuff recorded all the time and forget about it. I assume if it doesn't arrive the person will let me know. It seems doubly odd in this instance that the person took so long to let the seller know, and two weeks after the event had happened. I would ignore it.

If this ended up in Court, I would suggest that the buyer had a responsibility to inform the seller in a reasonable period that they had not received the tickets to allow the seller to make amends.

By waiting until after the concert they failed to do so.

IANAL.

My guess: they went to the concert.

They may have gone to the concert with other tickets, however, someone has paid for something from yourself that was not delivered, therefore you should refund them. You should have been more proactive and ensured the delivery reached the buyer.

What were the tickets worth? "Signed for" only insures for £50.

How do you know this?

Do you not think it a very odd situation?

The buyer had every chance to let you know that they had not recieved the tickets well before they became useless, however they chose not to do so. If you had purchased tickets for an event would you leave it until after the event to contact the seeler if they didn't turn up?

Classic buyer trying it on scam

If I was waiting for tickets for a consert, I would contact seller 2 day before, if I did not have them, not 2 weeks after

when is the concert? do you know the seat number or is it standing?
I lost some tickets once and the venue printed them out again for me when I got there.
Surely the original seller can cancel them and re-issue

Concert has been and gone to those that are asking about it.

I think she either decided not to go last minute and refused to sign for the tickets or pick them up from the post office or whatever.

She knew when the concert was. I told her they would be with hre the next day. Delivery was attempted, she KNOWS she hasnt signed for them and she has waited four weeks to contact me. It think she has done all this deliberatly because she changed her mind for whatever reason.
