Hi Guys,

I have an 02 996 C2 manual that cut out in stationary traffic on the way home today. I don't have the CEL illuminated on the dash, but P0335 "RPM input circuit" is the code stored in the DME when I checked.

A bit of a Google tells me that this means the crank sensor is dead or dying.

I know where the crank sensor lives (passenger side near the flywheel), but is it easy to remove and replace from underneath with the car on axle stands? Is the plug and connector readily accessible, or does half the engine need to be removed first?

Frustratingly I changed the coil packs a few weekends ago before it was pitch black by 4pm, had I have known then...

No replies? I guess I should have said instead:

"How will changing the crank sensor impact upon depreciation, and possibly bore score the IMS whilst the dealer forgets to buy my wife flowers for the Non N Rated tyres that made the car catch fire?"

Having now done this task, it is easily accessible with the nearside rear wheel removed, the only difficulty being getting your hand to the back of the plug to disconnect the wiring to swap the sensor over.

Not real hard is my 2nd hand info. There is a DIY in PDF formant in the PCGB forum.

I have the PDF but not the link. If you can't find the thing send me a private email with your email address which can accept the PDF and I'll send a copy to you.

Here is a link to the post on PCGB (don't think there is a pdf) but you will have to register to see it:

If you have any problems, drop me a PM and I'll convert it to a pdf for you.

Thanks for the posts guys smile

I'd done it by my follow up response.

If anyone else has their car cut out whilst hot with that error code, a new sensor is a quick and cheap fix. Jack it up, remove the nearside wheel, and you're good to go.
