Does anyone think it's worthwhile adding more padding to the rollcage (specifically to the bar near the side of ones head)? I'm thinking of getting some padding (maybe the FIA rated stuff) to experiment with.

Yep me thinks the same to,i think the side of a bus would do less damage to your head than the roll cage, let me know if you find something!

Insulation and padding are different things. Just as you wouldn't use a helmet to keep your house warm you shouldn't use insulation to keep your head safe. Roll bar padding is not just random foam.

Yes I see your point but it's better than nothing and prevents you from damaging your helmet.

The roll bar padding has an offset hole (more padding for the side your head will hit. That's about the only difference with the cheap stuff.

Basically, if you can squish it with your fingers and watch it spring back, it's not going to help if you wallop your head on it with enough force to do some damage. The proper stuff actually feels quite stiff, but has enough give to actually do something useful should your head strike the bar.

Although, having said that, it occurs to me that some of the padding must be designed for when you're wearing a helmet, which probably changes the requirements drastically...

I'd appreciate if you could find the time to do this Nathan ... but as you've got some gearbox issues on your mind at the moment () I'll well understand if you take your time.

Could you identify the part number for the roll cage padding that fit, please? I looked at the Demon Tweeks web site but it didn't specify any dimensions. Thanks

Just to finish of the thread, thought I'd add that I've bought a stick of black Longacre rollcage padding from here :- www.gprdirect.com/epages/GPRDirect.storefront/422ca23a02ef820c271bd9c7b8050685/Product/View/LON6517&2D1

One stick of foam is just enough to fit around the rollbars above each window (just where you can whack the side of your head).

For the M400 this works well if you're not wearing a helmet, i.e for daily driving. I'd also recommend it if you're going to do a car control course where you're not required or don't want to wear a helmet.

Once you stick a helmet on however (I'm 6'1"), the padding pushes your head over to one side so I'll be taking it off for track day events.

It seems suspiciously reasonably priced!

Just checked and it doesn't conform to any standards etc, and is probably flammable

Its only 3 USD over the pond too!

Probably, but because the material is expensive it doesn't wrap around the bar (presumably cost reasons), so you have to stick it on, which isn't really what you want...

It's probably not the best/optimum solution for everyone but until I find something better it will in the meantime provide a quick, cheap and simple way of stopping me from bashing my head quite so hard!

Yep totally agree. I had a look on the web for high quality foam that wrapped around, and came up blank.
