I've recently purchased the aforementioned 997 and am thoroughly enjoying it, a great bit of kit!

As I've spent more time with it I've had a good poke round and I noticed a bit of mud stuck in the rear arch lip on both sides, no problems to wash out but I did suspect given the design of the wheel arch liner that there maybe some trapped behind.

So, wheel arch liner removed I found it absolutely caked at the bottom of the wheel arch, in the stone guard that attaches to the sill and the liner........when I say caked there was a good 5inches of crud backed up behind the liner (rest of the wheel arch is spotless). Looking at the design of the lower sill / stone guard there's is nowhere for water or mud to run / wash out........are they all like that ? And who in In the whole school of German engineering thought it was a good idea to rivet said stone guard to the wheel arch lip ....... Almost TVR'esque levels of engineering (and I would know!)

I haven't heard of any rot spots on the 997 but it really did look vulnerable in that lower sill area if left caked up. Am i worrying about nothing? It has left me scratching my head a bit.

Apart from that, the rest of the experience so far is great smile

I got a 997.1 about 7 months ago and i was feeling about under the arches etc. likewise i also found the rear arch lips crammed with old muck. I don't drive the car in wet weather so it was dry as a bone & just crumbled out with a bit of prompting. But i thought how much water it would hold! I never checked behind the arch liners ( i'd break something! ).

Thanks for the tip - is it easy to remove the wheel arch liner? I assume the wheel needs to come off?
