Performance upgrade???
Discussion
Ok, I'm thinking of lavishing a bit of ££ on the wedge. Its currently got a 4 litre block and stage 3 heads plus adustable ecu. Is the next best move trumpets/enlarged plenum/jag air meter etc, or is cheapest bhp/pound just to wack a 4.6 litre short block in?
Suspension and brakes already upgraded btw. Also got rebuilt driveshafts.
I don't really want to upgrade to a bigger wedge as generally happy with condition of car.

Depends on how you want the power delivered, the 4.6 will go as soon as you touch the throttle but be all done by 5Kish whereas the short / big trumpet route extends the rev range ( mine pulls usefully to 6K+) but with less mid-range.

Is it possible to go the 4.6 route and not upgrade plenum/air meter? If not, I could be thinkin cart before horse maybe..!

I know that well. My 390 (was 3905cc, now 3948, so theoretically the same as a '4L' TVR engine) revs past 6K but does nothing till it gets wound up. A few times I've chased a 4L Chimaera into a roundabout, only to watch him grunt away on the exit. When my engine spins back up, I reel him in again.
I must admit I don't think the RV8 suits being thraped, grunty is the way to go and if it takes more capacity then why not.
However it depends on your perception of fast, Planman: is yur current spec. engine doing it's best? Maybe a little setting-up is all it needs... Ian

What about a supercharger?
;^)
That sounds good but also ££££££!
Theres one on ebay surprisingly! I Dont know if it would be suitable for you engine as it is for a serpentine pulleys (or fit under the bonnet).

I know you said you weren't keen but pound for pound and as long as you were very selective I would have thought a bigger wedge would be the way to go.
Would probably make more sense for resale value as well however I can undestand becoming attached and wanted to upgrade the current car as it sounds like you have it well sorted.
