Ordering Process
Discussion
Quick question, what is the exact ordering process for a Porsche and when can you be certain that the car you have spec'd and payed the deposit on is actually yours and can't be re-allocated! Probably being paranoid but would be good to get some incite from the more experienced owners out there!
I'm not 100% how it works, but I was told that without an allocation the order was not placed.
Once you receive an allocation, you should be invited to finalise your specification. I think at that point you have a confirmed build. You should then recieve a lock date, then your build date, then delivery date.
What car are you thinking of ordering?
Jay.

The OPC will normally ask for more deposit up to 10% of the total price (mine didn't as they knew they could sell it if I backed out), then your build is locked and you have a definite build slot. The estimated completion date can move though so if it does nothing to be concerned about.

Ok so have paid my 10%, and had the paperwork from the dealership with my spec, values terms and conditions etc and signed it! Someone mentioned a Com number not sure what that is but I don't seem to have one, should I? Also have had any information through on my Porsche experience day where a friend has who's car is being delivered at the same time as mine!Boggle73 said:
I had the same problem with the comm number. I had to ring OPC back and ask for it, it was not written on the initial order form.
You should see the box in the top corner of the order sheet.

Thanks Jay, now have the Comm number wasn't on the order form for some reason had to ring to get it!You should see the box in the top corner of the order sheet.

So am I correct in thinking that this car is now locked down to me or is there still an opportunity it can be re-allocated?
Hi,
I'm not sure if you actually have an allocation yet. I went through all of the things you have written above, but had a call 3 months after I had placed deposit. It was only then I was informed I had the allocation, at that pint I had to finalise spec and sign another bunch of paperwork. When you have the allocation it usually has a couple of weeks before LOCKDOWN.
Once you lockdown, they give you a rough idea of manufacture date, and also delivery date.
From what you have written, I don't think you have an allocation yet. What car have you placed a deposit on? Cayman, Boxster S, GTS, Spyder??
It does make a difference why car you are hoping for. Although only Cayman GT4 was listed as limited production, I had a long wait for a Boxster GTS allocation. Placed deposit 11th July, got allocation mid October, locked beginning November, delivery mid-end January, collect 1st March. TOTAL 8 Months.

GT4.... I have been informed I have got an allocation and spec has been sent to Germany had Comm number and Porsche experience day sent through to me! Are you saying that after all that there is a chance that I still wont get the car? Car due in March so I'm guessing it should be locked down very soon going by the dates you provided above?I'm not sure if you actually have an allocation yet. I wouldn't worry, mine is due in June and I've only just sent a spec in!!! I still don't understand the process, I've paid £5k deposit, submitted my preliminary spec to the dealer, signed an order form confirming the spec...and that's it!mdianuk said:

I did all of that at the beginning of the year then was asked back in to finalise the spec and pay the full deposit of the vehicle up from the 5k initial deposit and signed more paperwork and the order forms. been a long old slog and now I cant wait to finally get in it and give it a good old fashioned thrashing. The ECOTY route from this year is going to be my first trip in it joined by a Cayman GTS, Cayman R and a new Boxster Spyder..... The waiting is always the worst bit!!!!I think I've given myself obsessive compulsive disorder buying this car!

That seems to make more sense now. It sounds like you have completed your order and its on the build sheet.I think I've given myself obsessive compulsive disorder buying this car!
I'm not sure because I never asked OPC, but I think they can chase for an actual build date, this would give you a much clearer picture.
Well done getting a GT4, must be well happy. Worth the wait.

I am chuffed to bits if I'm honest it's my dream car! the waiting is killing me however!I'm not sure because I never asked OPC, but I think they can chase for an actual build date, this would give you a much clearer picture.

Your OPC should be able to fully explain to you where you are in the order process and if it is locked yet etc, I had a November build slot but didn't get a estimated completion date until about a month before - so I would reckon you have a build slot (the OPC order system should show what month) but probably not a completion date yet. They should be able to put your mind at rest over these things.
Remember, some of Boggles 8 months wait is his own choice (for March reg) - I collected my car about three weeks after the estimated completion date!

So my order is now allocated and the car is listed as in "Pre-production". So that meant going to finalize the build and sign the paper work for the official order (and slight change I made to the spec).
Seems the ordering process system has had a recent upgrade, and the paperwork differs from my initial order in September. I had to sign the order form in 3 places (and a duplicate) back then. This time I only signed in one location.
The old documentation said that once a build/delivery date was known, a deposit of 10% was required.
The new document says the deposit is dependent on model: (in £) 3k for Boxster/Cayman/Macan/Cayenne, 5k Panamera and 911, and 10k for 911 Turbo and all GT models.
I was expecting to have to part with more cash to bring my deposit up to the 10%, but being I have already done 3k down, I don't have to settle the rest of what I'm going to pay in cash until hand over.
