End of the lease looms on my 330D Coupe with manual box, after 3 of them, BMW have decided not to offer 3 litre engine with manual in the replacement 4 series, so I am shopping around; do Merc offer a coupe with 3.0litre.diesel.ans manual? Thanks in advance! Steve

I wonder why all of the majors, BMW, Audi and Mercedes have apparently stopped doing manual 3.0litre D coupe's?

I can imagine that you get marginally better CO2 figures with a modern auto, but that can't be it surely?

My other option appears to be extend the lease on the 330D Coupe (manual) for another year, but it's only putting off the inevitable?
Maybe I should just go solo on a PCP and buy a 911 cool

Same reason that manufacturers do everything - customer demand (or lack of).

Quite possible a lot of customers aren't capable of driving a manual any more.

Manual 3 litres in general are getting scarce, and tbh it's understandable as the latest Auto/ Dual Clutch transmissions are really excellent!

Scrambled eggs make an excellent breakfast, but not when you want a bacon sandwich. Bizarrely, these days we are offered a plethora of different models but very little choice.

The main problem for all of them is actually the torque output - five years ago a 330d put out far less power and torque than it does now. The average driver would be warranty claiming like mad for damage to gearbox and clutch because of abusive driving styles. A nice ZF or Merc auto box gets round that little issue...

But more possibly they just don't want to. A diesel isn't exactly a drivers car - why sit there rowing the thing with a manual box?

What if every morning you sell 100 scrambled egg breakfasts and only three bacon sandwiches? How long are you going to bother making bacon sandwiches every morning?

Oh yes, I quite agree and understand. But it's profoundly frustrating for us bacon sandwich lovers. I think soon enough Mercedes will offer a range of 25 different models each in one of two specifications: either (1) white paint, black plastic upholstery, privacy glass, big wheels, bullish grille, 4cyl diesel or (2) white paint, black plastic upholstery, privacy glass, big wheels, bullish grille, ridiculous twin turbo V8. To continue my somewhat unsatisfactory metaphor, it's like a restaurant in which you may have your breakfast at any time of day of your pleasing, but there is only ever one dish on the menu.

All good answers and of course amusing analogies too, makes me feel hungry for bacon.....

Soooo the conclusion is, no 3.0litre diesel manual from merc or bmw; does anyone know of a manufacturer that still offers such a thing???

When we got our last car my wife's only requirement was that it should have a manual gearbox, I wanted an auto. We ended up with an E350 with the 9 speed auto box and to this day she still thinks that I told the salesman to tell her that Mercedes didn't offer a manual gearbox, she won't believe that manuals are no longer available. I'm more concerned that the 3 litre 6 cylinder engine looks like an endangered species, you can't get it in the C Class any more.

My other car is an Elise, I'd have a DSG box in that if one was available, changing gear isn't that much fun, imo.

I've just gone from a 2011 C220 coupe to a C350 2013 saloon as I wanted the 3ltr engine, could have gone for the new shape C class but it didn't have the 3ltr in the range.

More then happy with the car with the auto box

Off to the EVO Triangle tomorrow with a few friends to "get to know the car"
