So the S4 is in for a service and I just wanted to see if the prices from main dealer Audi were correct,

Service would be £472.00 inc vat with additional £272.00 for spark plugs,

thought this was pretty steep!

is this correct?

Should be £445 for a major including plugs. Its Audis fixed price service cost.

Im sorry, nearly 300 quid for spark plugs, are they made of gold?? I found the correct plugs for my s4 at GSF for 4 quid each, surely the going rate for plugs is a fiver each maybe? and half hour to fit if you know what you're doing and even at Audi's rates that is only going to be £100 all in or am I missing something?

strange how this figures seems plucked form the air, when on their website it mentions the fixed priced servicing, and not anywhere near these high prices.... hmmmm ..... not great service from main dealer Audi really is it

I think the price being quoted was for a major service including plugs rather than just plugs.

So presumably fluids and other bits (with associated labour on top too) would need to be factored in. I would also bet that the quoted time will be nearer an hour.

Bearing in mind the oil cost at Audi dealers is, IIRC, pushing £130 (or more) it's not hard to see another £350 on top of your fag packet calculation.

IME if you show that the parts are identical a main dealer will use things you supply. I think I saved around £100 on oil alone doing this. The service I received was pretty good, the car was valeted outside and in and the service history keeps its Audi stamps. And you also don't have to piss about in a cold garage, crawling on a wet floor etc when all you really want to do is go for a drive...

Yes, hourly rates are high (if they weren't you'd be paying even more for the cars I suspect), but when you really break it down are the prices really that bad? (Maybe I'm just used to the spanking other marques give smile)

personally I'd never pay main dealer prices, unless it affected a warranty of course as you never see the massive extra costs back when you try to sell it because there is only so much a second hand car is worth and I really believe a car isn't worth that much more just because of a dealer stamp IMHO, fortunately where I live there was a BMW specialist who was an ex main dealer technician and he was £55 an hour rather than the main dealer rates of £100, plus you'd pay more for any parts at the main dealer, like 200 quid for 8 plugs :-) and there happens to be a nice Audi specialist up the road from me with a similar rate, so guess where mine is going when it needs it

I agree, usually I'd use a good specialist, but i got a 3 year warranty with my S4, which makes me feel all safe and warm at night!

some of my local garages allow you to supply your own parts so that can be a good thing
