think I've downloaded a virus, programs are crashing/failing/not starting for no reason, managed to run Norton Antivurus but nothing found, any ideas
what to try next ?

I downloaded the free version of AVG, and it found 12 viruses that Norton didn't find.

Likewise. I had Avast virus software installed recently and it found 33 viruses that Norton didn't pick up.
Norton is pants.... period!
