UK`s Leading SEO & PPC Agency Is
Discussion
Is apparently Climb Online who dont appear on page 1 or 2 of a search for UK SEO Agency !
So can anyone claim any old crap ?
Personally I thought "FOUND" was the best consistently performing actual SEO agency in the UK but Mark Wright says not.
Reason I ask is we kick off the "John n Dave" Business Boost Consultancy in January (will think of a better name by then) and why the hell shouldn't we say we are the "leading agency in the North West" we are obviously not and wont be in my lifetime but how the hell can people just claim this stuff and why dont the decent SEO guys challenge them?

We once wrote a script to strip the text from the front page of a sample (520-odd) of our competitors' websites. Then we ran a concordance on the extracted text. The most common word, once articles etc had been removed? "Leading". Everybody is leading. It's like lemmings, really. Well, not really, since that's a myth, but I digress...

Whilst we are discussing myths, dispel the "a good seo company should be on results page 1" myth as I know thats not the case but to be honest I dont know why.DSLiverpool said:

Whilst we are discussing myths, dispel the "a good seo company should be on results page 1" myth as I know thats not the case but to be honest I dont know why.- SEO keywords are valuble and who is going to want to rank for SEO keywords more than SEO specialists? Nobody.
- some keywords such as seo, payday loans, car insurance are extremely competitive.
- a site attempting to rank fot SEO keywords is almost pot luck past a certain degree of effort and the risks massively increase.
- most agencies dont invest the time required to rank for seo keyworfs because yhey are much better off selling their services and getting money, rather that chasing a dragon.
- Lots of sketchy SEO use short term 'blackhat' tactics to rank for SEO keywords. The will happily churn and burn sites. (High steaks and results heavily neutered by google.)
- Once you get a decent set of clients you attract clients through awards and referals.
- Most decent agencies were founded when these very bad tactics were actually the best tactics and perfectly acceptable. Its often 10x- easier to start a new site that deal with this but most dont want to rebrand/confuse customers etc. (I would say sometimes its impossible if youve been properly hit)

climb online was last years apprentice winners business. Cant be that good if he is from the apprentice and still cant get to page 1.
To be fair, the guy did the SEO for a hotel I was involved in both before and after he was on the Apprentice and it had by far the best SEO in the group. He was beating potential clients off with a s
tty stick last time I heard.Just because a company isn't on PR0 doesn't mean it is not the leading company.
What about companies that get a lot of clients from word of mouth, conventions etc?
If anything, obscure blackhat SEO "companies" will be found on PR0-3...for a day until another one comes along and pushes it off the page by abusing Google T&C's too.

I have worked in this industry in various capacities since 1999 and the fact an agency does not rank for the term SEO is meaningless to me, most of the agencies I have worked with don't have enough time to work on their own site instead they are too busy working for their clients.
I really doubt Climb Online is the best or anywhere near it given the short amount of time they have been around for.

Call me a cynic but the best, most expensive SEO company in the states (up there anyway making mega bucks) is run by a guy who is old school pals with the head of the google algorithm. It would seem this SEO chap is one of the few who 'understands' how to really optimise a site and rank.
Here's the UK's leading SEO and PPC agency: http://tinyurl.com/za9hw69 (ignore the adverts, obviously)
Frankly, not being on the above list (ads not included) and claiming to be the best is like me claiming to be the best heavyweight boxer but refusing to get in the ring with Fury. UK SEO agencies, here is your ring: http://tinyurl.com/za9hw69
I'm sure some SEO expert will be along shortly to explain why I'm wrong but if I search for "UK's leading SEO and PPC agency" because I want to hire the UK's leading SEO and PPC agency, I'm going to refer to that list.

I remember last year's final, there was much amusement on twitter that an SEO expert had chosen a name that already had the .co.uk and twitter name used by rock climbing organisation.
The rock climbing company were oblivious to The Apprentice and were inundated with tweet etc.
I always thought he would have been better calling the business "You're Highered"

Well it might help to choose if you want a PPC agency or an SEO agency. I know they tend to market both but if you really want the best you can't generalise.Frankly, not being on the above list (ads not included) and claiming to be the best is like me claiming to be the best heavyweight boxer but refusing to get in the ring with Fury. Your last point is very valid -ntMost decent agencies were founded when these very bad tactics were actually the best tactics and perfectly acceptable.
