So - what's the best approach to free off?

It's probable that the bolt has seized into the hole in the hoop moulding. Just squirt lots of Plusgas in there over a period of days gradually working it back and forth and hopefully it will free off. If that doesn't work, use that MX5 hood frame you have and make a proper folding roof laugh

When you get to GTS status, you'll be glad if anything other than your back and joints is stiff young Steve. smile

Edit: Have you really had it up all this time???
Try giving it a whack with a ruler.

is it the 'over centre struts' that are stiff to lock/unlock or is it stiff in swinging into the raised / lowered position i.e. the hinges?

one of the struts is very hard to lock/unlock on my S - I'm a little loath to start filing elongated holes

Hellow Top Gear TVR, slightly off the thread topic but concerning your roof, the targa panels! I have had my S2 for years which i rebuild myself more or less from scrap, a proper wreck. but then a couple of years later with too many cars all needing to be on the road (i don't even have a driveway let alone a garage where i live in North London) and not enough money to shell out on road tax and council permits for all of them (bloody residents parking permits round here) i regretably chose to sell the s2, but i missed it and managed to buy it back from my buyer exactly 3 years later. sadly, amongst many of the bizarre things the interim keep did to 'my' car in those 3 years, he replaced my targa panels!!!! when i collected the car back i noticed the change and he mentioned you, i don't remember 100% if he said the present black panels on my car came from your car or if he gave you my old brown ones, i am fairly sure he mentioned that my old brown ones went to the car that was featured on top gear! he told me the reason he swapped them was because my old ones leaked (they never did with me) and he thought the ones he replaced them with were better and didn't leak, however though my old brown ones were very rough and the brown fabric was quite thread bare and scuffed, they were original to MY car and fitted perfectly. obviously these are quirky cars and no 2 are exactly the same, the smarter looking black panels on my car now do not fit as neatly as the old tatty ones and seem a bit wider, over hanging the door glass a bit too much, so if you are in possession of my tatty old brown ones, would you consider swapping them back with my black ones or selling them back to me for not too much if you do have them. cheers, drak

very odd - i only have blue ones on TopeGearTVR and these fit very well, and a pair of 'spare ones' that are slightly smaller black ones I bought on the bay - which I would be happy to swap / trade for another set?

Whereabouts are you?

hmmm maybe my old ones were black after all, maybe it was just the underside that was brown, so long ago, had it in my muddled old mind that the old ones were brown as my interior id dark brown. will check old pictures, is the underside of your smaller ones dark brown? i'm in north london, but my car could do with a drive to blow the cobwebs out, where are you?

yes i'm muddled, they were black on top after all, don't know why i thought they were brown, do you remember or have any record of who you bought them from on ebay? wonder if it is the same bloke sold and bought my car back from, do yours look like this? these are my old ones that though tatty firred the rear hoop and screen neatly.
