R8 V10+ vs Turbo S
Discussion
Looks a good car that V10+ does! If didn't need a 4 seater I think it would get my money out of the two.

The tiny bit of power deficit shown by the Tubo S will be clawed back with the introduction of the 991-2 . So that's that sorted! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e16tfyzYhSU

On the road, the two cars probably have a surprisingly similar feel. I have a 500hp 996tt and a mate has an R8 GT.
Those of us that have driven both feel there's very, very little in it in terms of speed and fun. Clearly the Audi has a bit more grunt at low revs - NA and an extra 1.6 litres worth - and a tad more in top gear, but it is a bit heavier and feels it. The induction makes some staggeringly good noises part throttle and on over-run. A V10 is a much more exotic and attention-grabbing noise, buy then the Mezger, once on full song, has a soulful howl.

Older R8 s seem to hold their value pretty well.
If you look what a bargain older 911 turbos are, and the fact that this 991 generation took a fairly healthy hike upwards in price, I wouldn't much fancy selling a 2/3 year old 991 turbo & calculating the depreciation.
Think the Audi will definitely be the better bet in that respect.

As an everyday car I'm sure the 991 Turbo S would make the better proposition, but as a 2nd/weekend/bit-of-fun car, that V10+ looks and sounds very tasty. Apart from the looks - the last R8 didn't do a lot for me, but I have to admit to being quite excited about this 2016 model.
I'm the opposite,I had the r8 and it was brilliant ,and although not beautiful it was a good looker, not sure on this new one.But the engine is epic .
But the Mclaren 570s is where that sort of money would go for me ,although I say that having not driven one yet.

I can imagine the Audi would loose money like a sieve over the turbo considering the otr is quite close would be interesting to see after 2 years + what they then retail for
YepI tried to buy a 2013 (62) v10 plus s tronic, low miles, low owners - it was mid to early £70s (about £60k in just short of 3 years) . The equivalent turbo S would have lost 'only' £40k

Okay, I stand corrected . . . . I was thinking perhaps too much of the strong residuals of early cars, as I (perhaps incorrectly ) remembered it.
Yes, I think the earlier cars did pretty well and certainly that's how my mate arrived in his R8 GT; p/exed an early V8, as the gap was doable.R8's don't look right...too much cab forward, too much Audi DNA (I know that's to be expected but still). Too ordinary given the shape and drama inherent in the basic idea.
This vs a 991... a 50 year old evolution...perhaps the most recognised of shapes but still..but still the 991 is effortlessly superb in it's design execution...
It's not badge snobbery..nearly but not quite.. Audi know good restrained stylish evolutionary design, although of late I fear their losing their way... it's just for me currently Porsche are on a roll and Audi have stagnated. When buying something like this..something that costs that much, it has to have everything... The Audi needs shouty colours and/or bling to get attention... the Porsche never will.

Interesting thread - I'm quite tempted by an R8 V10 Plus gen1 myself - does anyone have any insight into what it drives like compared to a 997 GT3 or indeed a Turbo?
The gen1 v10 in manual is a car I really liked a lot with a really nice engine. Have to admit though i am not sure at all i would pick one over a 997gt3 but no other non gt Porsche turbo or otherwise comes anywhere close.Useful thoughts chaps - coming from a GT3 I'd accept the Audi would be a bit more 'civilised' and perhaps not quite so raw, but the engine in the R8 is equally epic by all accounts, and personally I really like the styling - nicely understated with proper supercar proportions. Finding a manual in the Plus would be like trying to find rocking hourse sh
t though, so I'd probably have to make that mental leap into dual clutch auto mode, and i'm not sure I'm ready for that just yet!!

From my short time in a V10 Coupe I don't consider them comparable in terms of practicality, feel, weighting and performance. V10 takes some things away and gives you some things back (comfort, noise a bit of drama, perceived rarity). Edited by Fl0pp3r on Friday 25th December 10:52
V10 Coupe in the flesh has plenty of drama and (I think) it looks like a supercar on the road.
V10 has a mighty real world thirst though which ultimately killed off the idea for me at the time (2012). Also car is crying out for the Capristo switchable exhaust conversion. Once heard, never forgotten
