Martyn Ashton Go Fund for rehab

Not sure if its ok to post stuff like this but got a link on facebook for this and hadnt seen it on here.

Martyn was going to sell some of his bikes to raise money for rehab, lots of people said not to and would send him a contribution.

Just donated a few ££ before I saw this post. He's got nearly £30,000 when I was on. Not bad going in 24hrs and a good cause.
Thats some of my annual donations done, 10p for every mile cycled this year. Just got to decide on a couple more charities before 31st Dec and get donating.

Wow! I couldn't countenance such a generous donation scheme. I haven't got a spare £570 hanging around to give away, I'm afraid...

I won't be donating to Mr Ashton. I like the guy, and have enjoyed watching his videos. But he was a professional rider, making his living from it, so should really have been insured against such an injury. But don't get me wrong, I'm not 'anti' this funding method, and I'm happy it's going well for him. I suppose it might make me seem like a hypocrite really, but I'd give any spare I had to my old regiment's injured soldiers fund, or to the poppy appeal/ABF/etc.

He will have been insured, but probably not for the rehabilitation gear that he's wanting to buy himself. The other thing to consider is that he wasn't going to go down this route, he was going to sell his bike, he only went for the Go Fund Me option after so many people had told him to on Facebook, it's not like he was begging or anything.

It's not like they make much of a living as a professional...

He has bought a lot of joy to many people so I can't imagine there's any ill will in him raising money.

It's looking good for him so far, a kick in the arse off £40k in a day!

I'm glad he didn't have to sell the bike. While he still has it, riding it again is something to aim towards for him.

Not sure if I care if he spends it on rehab or coke and hookers, the RBP videos are worth a donation all day long!

This is pretty much why I didn't follow in Dad's footsteps and join up in 1999, he joined in 1979 and although he saw active service in Northern Ireland and the first Gulf War most of his time was a fair old jolly! He got old 'join up and see the world', all I could see for myself was being sent to places that involve angry people shooting at me?! Bugger that for a laugh!

Either way, back on topic...

I gladly gave a small donation even though he was at £24k at the time, in the hope that he continues to push the boundaries of disability cycling and para-sports. Directly or indirectly he's got the power and opportunity to do great things and inspire others to follow and develop. It would be a crying shame if he couldn't for fill that potential for the want of a bit of funding.
