Yes I realise the daftness of asking on PH for fashion advice. I have been to a few Sunday Services! laugh

Anyhow, way back in '08 (early adopter biggrin ) I got a Superdry Windscheater jacket. You all know the type.

(Albeit mine is all black)

Now it's lasted incredibly well. It's warm, hard wearing, comfy. Shower to mild rain proof. Pretty much perfect. But now the pockets got a hole in it and it's getting faded! So ordinarily I'd buy another.

However, it has become a bit Chav since then. Probably very much like Burberry did. And of course Superdry isn't Japanese anyway, so the faux Kanji is pretty council. (It actually says 'Maximum Dry Do' stty translation I guess) So obviously I can't possibly buy one now.

Looked at The North Face and Jack Wolfskin. But neither really do anything very similar. Looking for a decent brand with credentials (Yes, bit of a label we!) And inevitably got to be OK to wear in the street, rather than in a Ski resort somewhere so no neon or lairyness.

Any ideas?

Less fashion, but more than adequate for doing the primary objectives of keeping you dry and warm smile
Plus they are a British brand

Whats your budget?

Id be looking at RAB, Paramo, Montane, marmot, haglof.

I always buy on the build and material quality though not brand, for example my oil skin was £13 from decathlon, because its just gonna be rolling around in the boot of my car and the quality seemed good enough.

Gant make some very decent jackets. Or Barbour make a fair number that don't involve waxed cotton...

Another shout for Rohan. Got quite a bit of it. Unfortunately, not made in Britain any longer, just designed. The altering / repair service also been pulled too.

Patagonia makes some nice gear too.

I don't get the whole can't wear it now.

If you like it get another. I have worn North Face have for about 8 years. I remember going shopping and some youths going on about North face jackets being common etc. behind me on an escalator after they clocked mine, I guess because I had one. But I didn't really care I just like them, and a lot of people love to comment. I also buy Superdry jeans as I like them and would wear them even if Jeremy Clarkson started to.

You then get the opposite people who go out of there way to find the most obscure brand just so they can be different. If you like it buy it again, trends come and go.

Loving my Rohan Leader jacket. Have always supplied quality clothing.

Bought from their 'Souk' on the website at a decent price - last years colour. And if that wasn't cheap enough bought MrsMercs an identical jacket off eBay where a lady in Oxfordshire seems to have a lot of new / nearly new (returns) Rohan at lower prices - given they are based in MK. (Also just found someone on eBay selling Halfords returns cheap as chips - new cycling gloves incoming !).

An alternative - alternative. Waitrose have Dunkertons Black Fox cider on offer at the moment - direct from Julian's old man's cider farm. I'm well stocked.

What about Musto:

They also do a version without the fleece lining.

Maybe not as much of a 'brand' as Superdry, but very good kit which I've been using for years.

I've got a Carhartt jacket.

Had it for about 10 years now. Not a fashion item and seems to be pretty indestructible.

I can vouch for that, I've had one for years and it still looks as good as new.

Northface are OK too, very good at keeping you warm but very plain in their appearance - I have one but my company gave us them and it has their logo on, so I don't wear it hehe

Something like so:
