Air con error message

Can anyone advise please. This message came up when put on a machine. My car has just had a new compressor fitted but I am guessing this was not the fault.

Car is a 2006 Cayenne.

I'm by no means an AC expert, but know a little about how the system comes together and this fault code obviously relates to an electric fan.

And at first thought I can only think of two related to the AC:
i Condenser Cooling Fan which is controlled by the engine control unit (This helps to make the AC system cold)
ii Fresh Air Blower controled by a regulator in the AC unit (This blows warm/cold air into the passenger comparment)

Both have a feedback loop to their control unit to prove that the fan is operating properly.

But before guessing as to why that fault code has appeared and whether its actually relevant, it would be interesting to know what the symptoms are and why the compressor was replaced?

I'm just guessing that you noticed that the AC wasn't getting cold, and it was first regassed and proved not to be leaking, but then was found still not to be getting cold? The next diagnostic choice was then to throw a compressor at it.

Now adding in the Fault Code information into this diagnostic hypothesis - if the condenser fan is not working, it is likely that the AC wouldn't get very cold, at least when the vehicle is not moving....

Am I getting warmer?? What other information can you give??

The garage that diagnosed claimed to have all the gear to read all codes but it now appears he has not. But left us in a hole for over £1000.

Very sorry to hear that!

Decent diagnosis is sometimes a tricky business and unfortunately fault codes often only give an indication of a problem rather than giving a direct cause to a fault.

Its not usually just a case of plugging in a diagnostic tester and getting an answer. And thats where experience and sound diagnostic logic come into play, along with good verification of the symptoms described by the customer and a solid understanding of the system that you're working with.

But diagnosis work can take a lot of time, which is also costly, so its often easier to follow experience and some diagnostic logic to make assumptions, rather than proving catagorically with diagnosis before replacing components...

Anyhow, if it hasn't already been sorted, I would be looking at the condenser fan operation as a possible next step... Are there any fault codes from the DME (Engine Management Controller) that also point towards an issue with cooling fans?

I will be booking the car in with an air con specialist after Christmas. He claims to have the right diagnostic equipment. This one maybe one for the main dealer if he can't sort it. Just hope I can get something sorted my summer.
