AOS May have just let go....

Accelerating up through 3rd gear in our Boxster S when a large plume of very dense white smoke expelled itself from the exhausts for approx 200 metres.

Pulled over as soon as possible and switched off. checked underneath and all round, no fluids leaking, header at the right level, it was fully serviced not long back so oil was all good and cap clean there was no bad noises or major loss of power. Cooled a bir started up and drove back home without any more smoke of noises or anything.

My thinking from reading up is that the Air Oil Separator has given up its full time job.

Any thoughts or experiences of anything similar?

Its a 2001 986 S.

AOS is certainly a likely candidate. I would let it go cold, check the oil level and drive it gently to your local indy.
