Evening M-Power,

I'm currently talking to dealers about my next step car-wise.

I have thought of going down the F80 M3 route, by way of a change till the next M5 comes out....or maybe going for an LCI M5, with the competition pack. Definitely swaying towards the M5 yet again.

But you know what, I HATE going through the usual nonsense with dealers, it is painful.

To give you an idea of the extent of it....

Does your M5 have the cloth or leather interior sir?

WBAC offered more for your car? I find that very surprising!

Ah yes, but your car will need a bonnet respray and four new tyres! (a couple of stone chips, a million miles from a re-spray...new PSS all round 6000 miles ago....the last set lasted 22000 miles!)

This M3 has only just arrived, there's been lots of interest (it's been there since October, they can't shift it because of the colour.....even the receptionist laughed!!)

What exactly is it you're after Sir? (I explained this upfront, orally and in writing)

That deal is impossible Sir! (They said this in 2013 when I was buying the current car....the deal was possible, but sadly for them, was done elsewhere!)

I try my very best to be straight and realistic, not wanting to waste their time or mine.

Maybe I'm getting too old for this st.

I think I might just get a white van and fk it all!!

I've got to say that my last change was painless. decent trade in, decent amount off the screen price, really good after sales service too.

However I know what you mean.

I suspect I fell lucky.

Do your research online. Go in with a WBAC value on your p/x and an online broker price from the likes of broadspeed, coast to coast or similar and your armed. Be honest at the outset and show the dealer the quotes you have and there's no messing around, either they can do the deal or they can't. If they can't there are plenty out there that will.

They can't do the deal, but seem to have trouble facing up to that fact.....it's almost as if, if they ignore what I'm asking for, I will somehow forget and go with their offering.

They do this, of course, because there are so many mugs who do!

Even those dealers that do initially deal well and fairly ultimately succumb to the temptation to squeeze in a fly shafting when they can, it's in their genes .

I think you've got to be straightforward. I don't mind paying a few percent more for convenience of a local dealer, but it's relatively easy to these days to find a dealer that will offer a substantial discount on a well specced M car. Convenience and 'relationship' only go so far and if a dealer is spoiling what should be an enjoyable process, sounds like you need to buy elsewhere.

Just dangle money in front of them and then threaten to walk away if they can't match a deal.

I tried the "I'll leave £1000 right now if you can do me a deal" line and they called back shortly afterwards and gave an extra years warranty and additional prep work when I was in the process of buying a car.

If it's someone young ask them "don't you want to earn your bonus this month?" biggrin

For BMW M i found Stratstone to be excellent when i bought last year. Best deal (i did a lot of homework) & no hassle during the buying process. Car even arrived 1 week earlier than expected.

It does become a bit tedious doesn't it. I'll be using carlow etc to do most of my leg work. It's a hassle to visit a dealership only to be told the M3 is a new model and no discounts!

M3s and M4s are piling up, they can't shift them. A fair few buyers seem to be bailing out early, due to the likes of build issues and lack of traction in the wet / poor composure on uneven surfaces. Suspension mods help from what I'm told.

O% deals will appear for the second quarter methinks.

Try Vines Redhill as they are working out of portakabins whilst the showroom is being renovated, they still have to make their targets as normal so are willing to deal.

I got a fantastic lease on an M5 from them last month.

The dealership are wkers go else where
ELMS Bedford are good, cambridge are not.
Listers Kings Lynn are no longer viable.

EDIT: Coopers and Syntners both crap IMO.

After dealing with the worst dealership ever (Spires Sterling Corner) - who were so bad I didn't even want to buy another BMW - AUC X5 4.0d M Sport, I purchased a new LCI F10 via Specialist Cars Stevenage and had a excellent service.

Part Ex was fair - Car was factory ordered and delivered on time and I was kept up do date weekly (to start) and then daily as delivery approached.

Car and dealer have been faultless and my faith in the brand restored (for now).

Have read many horror stories of late with AUC - maybe that is where the brand really suffers..

Cheers

All AUCs can have problems. The issue is more that people think it's a sign of a perfect vehicle. It is not. You need to check it over carefully.

A lady friend of ours recently purchased a 1 yr old Golf and i was shocked at how st is was. Kerbed alloys, 3mm on the tyres, a bloody great dent in the lower near side panel.

What happened is the dealer (VW main dealer) sold the car to a 'woman' the day it came in on part x and thought, lolol, no prep required on this car. she paid full asking and drove off in a sub par car.

I called the bds 3 weeks after she had it-they denied everything. said the car was mint when it left their yard. A total of 200 miles had been clocked up and their answer about the tyres was, the lady may have pulled a few burnouts-how would we know. The silly moo saw most of the issues at the time but thought they would naturally make it like new.jesus.

Not sure where you are but Rybrook Shrewsbury and Bowker Blackburn were head and shoulders above everyone else when I bought 2 years ago.

I didn't end up buying from Rybrook as they didn't have the car I wanted (AUC) but they bent over backwards to try and sort me something out, even a Sunday afternoon just-browsing testdrive.

Bowker Blackburn were also excellent to deal with albeit they didn't move much on the car, but it was well priced anyway. Just generally a good dealership.

Williams Manchester weren't bad 3 years back either.

On the other hand I really don't rate Haliwell Jones, Chester. I was literally ready to do a deal on a car but didn't because they weren't prepared to put matching tyres on the car (same axles had different tyres on). Their service team are miserable b&*SA%^Ds too.

What deal are they offering on the M3? You should be able to get 10-12% off one.

How much contribution could you expect with a 0% deal - Peter Vardy currently contribute 7.3k IIRC at the current rate.
