London Boat Show 2016
Discussion
Anyone going/been?
Considering two tickets to it as a Christmas present for my dad, just wondering if anyone has been before and can give feedback on it? We'd be coming from Northern Ireland so by the time you go to the trouble of flying over for the day I'd like to make sure it'd be worthwhile.
He does love his boats, I remember going to a show in Dublin a few years ago with him and he enjoyed that but we were round it in a couple of hours. Hoping the London one would be much larger in scale - Looking at flight times and things I imagine we'd be there probably from 10 am to 4-5 pm or so, would there be enough going on to keep you occupied for this long? (taking in an hour or whatever for lunch etc)
Any advice gratefully received.

I'm going as got free tickets for buying at the Southampton boat show. They have constantly had 2 tickets for £20 offers on and each time they say they're stopping they start a new offer so it's almost like they are struggling to get rid of them.
As for the show I've not been before but Southampton boat show I spent 2-3 hours and that was plenty so I don't see me spending much more time there unless you like long chats with suppliers.

Can you fly into City Airport? That's right next door.
I think it's a good show if you're into power, but a bit light if you're more into sailing boats.
Agree with above, Southampton is the better show, but London is worth seeing.
Bear in mind that Boot in Düsseldorf is on a couple of weeks later - now that is absolutely massive - 11 halls I think!

Thanks chaps, you can indeed fly direct to London City, this was one of the things that got me thinking about it in the first place.
I'm inclined to think it may not be worth the hassle, he has been to Southampton before a few years ago and all reports I've seen say it is the better option.
I am unfortunately not in a position to have any need to speak to suppliers let alone have a lengthy chat and nor is my dad. We would purely be going for a nosey round, so on that basis it may not be worth the outlay.

I went a couple of years back as a guest of Fairline, and it was an absolute blast. However, that may have had more to do with the volume of canapés and fizz than the quality of the displays. It felt like a very static show and, perhaps as I wasn't in the market at the time (although I did fall in love with a Chris Craft), a little bit stale. But, if boats are your 'thing', then you'll have a field day nosing around the variety on display.
