Aaargh. Just when I'm wrestling with the finances to ensure Santa delivers for the kids I am offered a mint condition 70D for £400.

Save for a 6D instead.

I may be exaggerating slightly. The kids pressies are safe, and I daresay I could afford it......not sure the wife would understand though!

It's a very nice camera and a very, very nice price. What's your lens situation though?

You could console yourself and stave off buyer's remorse by shooting good quality footage of the family opening presents etc.
