Replacing a seat in a boxster, how hard?
Discussion
The drivers seat in my fathers boxster s is knackered, heating element doesn't work and I believe the lever to lift the seat up is broke.
Speaking to the speacilist he uses its going work out cheaper to buy a second hand seat and replace it rather than a fix.
I've never changed a seat before, so how hard is it? This is the first generation boxster s model.

In case it isnt obvious, the advice about keeping the key out of the ignition is to prevent the airbag warning light going off when the seat electrics are disconnected. This means that you can't move/drive the car with a seat out so plan accordingly.
Also don't muck about with the seat slider lever with the seat out or you might find that the left and right side runners get out of sync and getting them lined up again will cost you some time.

If its gen 1 ( 986 ) then dont worry about airbag , not fitted till gen 2 ( 987 ) , theres 2 plastic covers over the front bolts which will either be screwed down or you will need to lever the clip up then slide off.
Undo the REAR bolts first then slide seat back and undo the front ones , disconnet wireing .
Have the roof open , makes life a lot easier.
Cover the door shut and door panel with a towl , get someone to guide you out with the seat .. its very easy for the runners to scratch the doot shut or door panel

It's not a seat airbag but specifically the passenger airbag that you may need to be concerned about as the passenger dashboard airbag is designed not to fire if there isn't some weight (e.g. a passenger!) on the passenger seat. Therefore, if you disconnect the passenger seat and turn on the ignition, you will get the airbag warning light.
It may be different with the drivers seat / steering wheel airbag as the car might always assume that a driver is present and not look for a signal from the drivers seat.
