Steam Controller
Discussion
Has anyone picked one of these up yet? I have and it's a really interesting little device. Takes a lot of getting used to but once it clicks it really works.
The only issue I have is the fine tuning, which will probably take more effort than I'm willing to make. So, I'm posting here asking if anyone has a good resource for pre-set (fan made) button configs? I know Steam were keen for users to write their own and share, but I haven't found anywhere freely distributing. And Reddit is a scary place for a n00b.
If anyone here has any experience they'd like to share, feel free!

Yeah I asked the missus to get me one for my birthday a few weeks ago and I've been using it on a few games since.
You're right in that it takes a bit of getting used to, but once figured out it is making sense. A recent firmware update allowed it to control the mouse on your desktop as you would a trackpad, as when I first got it earlier this month it just didn't work like that at all. I've only tried it on games that I'd use a gamepad for (so far Euro Truck Simulator 2 and flying helicopters in DayZ) and the trackpad function makes looking around the cockpit/cabin a lot smoother.
I'm still on the fence as to whether this will take off and become mainstream, as an Xbox controller does almost all the Steam Controller does and is universally recognised by all games, but the steam controller can be used to play games that are traditionally mouse and keyboard only.

I've had mine a little while now. First game I've played through (in fact, probably the first game I've actually finished in years) was Soma and that was a great experience. The controller worked really well and, as there's no shooting, works as a good introduction. In fact, as I was able to play in the same fashion as I would a mouse - fast twitch, total freedom to look around - on a big screen (I was using a projector) from a sofa, it was probably one of my favourite video game 'experience'! Up there with Half Life's opening sequence... the stuff that really makes you go 'Wooow!'. Ha.
But switching to a proper FPS is really frustrating. I've found where to download user created profiles (the option is in the controller config page, in Big Picture - although I bet everyone's already found it, I'm just blind) and that's been a big help in fine tuning. For example, I didn't know there was an option to dampen mouse inputs, or activate the gyro input as a mouse (on say a lesser sensitivity) to track your target with greater accuracy. But it's still hard going. And I think I spent pretty much most of yesterday afternoon 'fine tuning' this damn controller, from how the mouse reacts, to what should happen during soft or full pull of the analog triggers. At 33, this is a terrible way to spend my day off! Ha.
But, it is one very impressive little gadget. And when you consider it cost only forty quid, next to the PS4 and Xbox's fifty / sixty quid asking price! Total bargain.
