It's my dad's birthday early in the New Year and he works in the oil and gas industry. I'd like to buy him a large, pre-built model - either an oil rig or FPSO, for his office.

I am struggling to find any models via Google, only the Revell one which needs building and painting, which isn't really his thing.

Can anyone suggest companies that sell this sort of thing?

These look great but I expect they have a price to match!

Why not buy it and then build it for him? For my Dad's Xmas present last year I made a Battle of Britain memorial flight diorama with some Corgi diecast model planes mounted to a painted piece of wood.

Or how about this:

It wouldn't surprise me if you coule buy a real boat for what one of those costs

I've just bought a Gelande 2 defender model, just the kit with no motors or RC gear was £450 , it's easy to get it well over £1000 with accessories so I'd think those ship models built would start at £2,000

Could try ringing the Aberdeen Maritime Museum. They may stock models in their shop.
