How to tell a redrose from standard?
Discussion
Hi,
second post after the feedback I got last time was extremely useful!!
Still looking around at tuscans and have a question regarding the 'redrose' conversion offered on the tuscan.
1, Can anyone tell me which specific items were replaced/upgraded & what was actually involved in the conversion?
2, How much did it cost?
3, Has anyone got/driven a redrose & could tell me how they compare to a standard one, or even a tuscan 's'?
and the important one;
4, How can I tell a redrose tuscan from a standard one & should it be in the vehicle documentation/service history?
once again any feedback will be greatly received!

I can't answer questions 1-3 because I bought mine already done but the answer to question 4 is comical, and will always get a laugh on here.
Mine is written on the top of the engine block in black marker pen ! I have heard stories about various other obscure locations so good luck !

There are lots of threads on this subject just do a search for 'Red Rose'.

"Red Rose upgrades" came in two forms... Some cars have the "Red Rose brakes and suspension". That's the height adjustable dampers, and the brakes off a 4.5 Cerb (if I remember correctly). Then there's the Red Rose engine upgrade (which then became the Tuscan S engine), which involves bigger injectors, etc. The Brake + suspension upgrade would cost you £2k or so to retro-fit to a normal Tuscan. The engine rebuild is £3.5k all in. Later normal Tuscans got the height-adjustable suspension (which really is hardly any better than the standard stuff), and I'm not sure about the brakes. [Edited to add]: A full Tuscan RR, as bought from new, should have the brakes, suspension, and engine all uprated.
Have driven standard, RR, and S, in numerous cars. Every single one is different. The change from a badly set up standard one to a well set up standard one is much bigger than a standard car to an S. However, the extra power is noticeable at the top end. And the additional stability from the S aero kit is noticeable above 70, and very, very useful about 110 or so.
Best way to tell a Red Rose one from a normal one is to harass the factory - they'll have the documentation. Determining what spec the engine isn't the easiest thing without taking the top off it.
Alternatively, circumstances are currently conspiring against me, meaning I'm probably about to have to sell the Tuscan (complete with all the paperwork to prove the £12ks worth of upgrades I've had done in the last year, etc! The only things left untouched are the chassis & gearbox)... get in touch if you're interested in possibly the most sorted & modded Tuscan money can buy (complete with a 2 year warranty).

It'll be an interesting task pricing that James (i.e. completed sorted but high(er) mileage).
Will look forward to reading the ad!

Not going to place an ad just yet - will leave it a couple of days to give first refusal to anyone that's actually "on the forums" before opening it up to "allcomers" (edited to add: there is the slimmest of slim chances I'll keep it at the moment, but I don't think that's an option right now). Would like the opportunity to go to someone that's a bit more of a "community member", rather than someone that may not appreciate the work that's gone into it if possible.
Don't plan on reducing the price by more than £1k over a similarly aged/specced car for the mileage. And given the full Tuscan S spec, 2 year warranty, full respray, new engine, new clutch, Nitrons, new tyres all round, CCC cans, de-cat, new ECU, new heater unit, uprated throttle bodies, private plate, DAB, tappet adjustment 200 miles ago, just MOTd, etc. it obviously won't be the cheapest car advertised! Guess I'm thinking £25k. Which I think's more than fair for what's a virtually new car now!

That is a very fair price for such a well cared for and sorted Tuscan, and I sincerely hope that whoever buys it appreciates it as much as you have.

sounds good mate but unfortunately just out of my price range.
Had a glance through some of the other threads & it seems like the only ways you can tell (apart from a call to the factory) are;
1, allen key heads round the centre of the front brake discs (with AP calipers)
2, 'red rose' written in marker on the engine (hmm, could be easily done methinks)
3, 'red rose' written in marker on the back of the ecu.
i think the best bet must be to call the dealerthat's serviced the car & the factory who'll surely keep a record of all the rebuilds they've done and whether it was done to red rose spec or not?
