ST Shedding (Sort of)

Afternoon all. I'm a bit of a lurker but thought I'd share the news on my new (sort of) work shed. I am 25 and have had a fair selection of hot hatches (see here) http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
After selling my Leon Cupra I set about deciding on what to go for. I didn't really want to let the Cupra go but it was only being used a handful of times a week and even after 10,000 miles and 18 months I'd managed to turn a tidy profit so thought silly to turn my nose up at it, especially as I'm (supposed to be) saving for a house deposit.
Initially I did want the new Fiesta ST Ecoboost and was all set to buy a 9 month old ST-3 with the Mountune pack but my girlfriend really wasn't keen and as we're saving for a house I didn't want to buy something she wouldn't be happy driving.
After a lot of thinking and trawling I decided to just buy a stop-gap for the time being. I do like Fords and have grown up with them and even worked at Ford main agents so I knew them pretty well, and I've had 3 Fiesta ST's and 2 Focus ST's before!
I'm always on eBay looking and I came across this one. The main things that attracted me to it were: 1. It didn't have 12 previous owners 2. It wasn't modified apart from the alloy wheels sprayed black 3. It had 12 months MOT and 4. Had quite a bit of history. The advert was very brief, had 2 pictures and just mentioned it was "perfect condition, a future collector's item." Make of that what you will but I decided to HPI it (it was all clear) and put in a max bid of what I thought it was worth. Fast forward two days and I was on the train to pick it up from Newark!
The deal was done in the dark in a dark train station car park without a drive (alarm bells?!) but I was happy as I could see it was straight enough, the levels were all spot on, it sounded sweet and the gearbox and clutch were good.
It is a bit leggy but it had a fair whack of history, 2 keys and only 2 owners (the first had it up to 2013 at 128k miles) so I wasn't overly worried. I do about 2,000 miles a month anyway so may as well start with something high! These 2.0 Zetec engines seem to be in my experience fairly bulletproof so time will tell! It drives really well and is very tight, certainly doesn't feel anywhere near the miles. My only criticism is it seems to be running just a little on the cold side so may well need a thermostat but for the time being it is fine and I'll look into it in the new year.
After 2500 miles it is running perfectly and averaging 32mpg which isn't too bad I suppose (£42.00 to fill up for 300 miles, I can live with that)
All I have done is get the alloys refurbed as they were pretty kerbed, other than that the car looks and feels very fresh and being a 2008 model it has the later Sony sound system!
I paid £2000 and personally I think I got a bit of a bargain
